Bigger axle for the crossfire
Bigger axle for the crossfire
This past week I found a bigger and stronger axle for the crossfire, a few people including myself have broken a axle at one time or another, . now you can have a bigger and stronger axle. they are used but they are an exact fit to the crossfire. the stock axle for the crossfire is 1" dia. These are 1 1/4 " if you want or need these larger axles just contact me. jim
the small one on top is stock.

Re: Bigger axle for the crossfire
So he's not going to tell you what vehicle they were pulled from until he sells the remaining three sets? Did they slip directly into our backing plate? Bearing and everything fit? Squirrel Crusher

Re: Bigger axle for the crossfire
correct and yes they are a direct fit ,,,,if i didn't have mine out so i could see them i would not have known any difference,, it was because i had mine out of the car that i saw the difference in dia. then started asking questions and then put one in the car (as i had dropped the diff. to replace the axle seals. had a small leak. jim
Re: Bigger axle for the crossfire
yes they are.. unless you have a dealership or junk yard and can compare and measure splines on both ends. don't forget it has to be the correct length and fit into the seal and diff,,,and fit into the hub .
over the years Mercedes has made over 1000 different cars, now which one is it?

Re: Bigger axle for the crossfire
Did you check what size of axles where in the v8 slk ?
if that is it, then can just crossreference part numbers to see what else works.
if not can get the rear track width of our Crossfire, and calculate in the wheel backspacing.
then do the same for other mb v8 cars and can see which calculates the same, then will have a starting point to look for.

in pictures they all look the same, except the crossfire and they are smaller dia.
Re: Bigger axle for the crossfire
So we need to find pre 05 with a larger axle.
Let me look through some om216.
We will figure it out
Re: Bigger axle for the crossfire
there are ONLY three (3 or 4) Mercedes that use the pumpkin that the crossfire used,, slk 320 slk32, c32 and I don't know as for the spline and hub there are 4 or 5 the three above and I don't know.
I have ask Rudy also and he said there are none that fit the crossfire, he looked a year or so ago, when the guy in Texas was racing and broke an axle, and needed one to complete the race

Re: Bigger axle for the crossfire
Pumpkins do not have to be the same to have the same spline.
and they would not bother me if I had a good tig to make one fit.
or a charger / challenger.
Mmmm
we should keep that also in mind since the charger and challenger where mercedes design.
seriously the k member from a challenger looks identical to ours. From pics...
and if it was, than the options get blown wide open.
from gears, axles limited slips suspensions wheels everything on the rear....
