Convertible top problem

Default Convertible top problem

I'm having a weird problem with my top.

I've read all the posts on tops (thanks) and haven't seen this one.

My top won't go up or down, the light in the switch is on and it beeps

My interior light is on all the time and my parking lamps stay on when i shut the car off and I had to disconnect the battery.

i'm thinking it's one of the door switches that activate the interior light, like the car thinks the door is open.

Will the top operate with the door open?

I also noticed the seem by the rear window came apart ( two year old top) maybe the switch in the top got wet.

Any help would be appreciated.

The top moves with the doors open, that is not it. And, your problem is exactly what has come up before, there are numerous threads that all lead the same direction:
You are describing water intrusion in the trunk area. The security system flashes the lights on lock and unlock, if the security module gets wet, it often turns those lights on. Also, any water into the trunk and rear wheels wells can get into the top control module.

It is time for someone to take the trim out of the trunk and look for water in the modules and wiring. We can go from there.

Hi Thanks for the reply

I figured it out before reading your post but you are correct it was water in the trunk. Took it all apart dried out the module and good to go.

I had a new top put on 4 years ago and one of the seams came undone. i can't believe they only glue it and don't stitch it it was a factory top.

Anyway back to enjoying my car!

Just keep in mind that electronics once wet, when dried out, will still retain any sediments or contamination from the water. In time, this will result in corrosion that can inhibit or conduct current.

If you start to see odd behavior in the next weeks or months, remember this.

Where did you get your new top? Was it from BAS International? I understand theirs is the best.

I think the flooded trunk did in the central locking pump.
All the locks work and the pump works but my top will no longer work.
i took it apart and dried it out but it only worked twice and was done.

Does anyone have the part number for the Central Locking Pump?

Anyone have a used one in working condition?

Is it the same part in a hard top and a convertible?

There are two pumps in your trunk, the security pump for the locks etc and the hydraulic pump for the roof. The hydraulic pump appears to be your problem, did it get wet?

A couple of years ago I purchased a Central Locking Pump to have as a spare from a salvage yard seller on ebay. The listing said it was tested and good. I didn't want to tear apart the coupe to test it, so I decided I would just check inside it to see if there was any corrosion. Removing the bottom cover revealed extensive corrosion inside the unit. I sent pictures to the seller and without any resistance he provided a full refund and didn't ask for the part back. It was useless to me so I tossed it. I recommend anyone buying a replacement either as a spare or to fix a problem to look inside it.

Good point, I have one and I think I did open it up and look at it inside, not being sure I will look again. These are not cheap, $200 to $300 and up if I recall.
I was going to test it in the car when I had the trunk apart, I should have taken the time.
Anyone buying one should get one with the plugs still attached with the wires cut, it is not much use having a good pump and using your old corroded plugs caused by the leak that ruined your pump in the first place.

I'm guessing the hydraulic pump is good. there wasn't too much water in the trunk and It looked dry.
The CLP however was full of water. I took it apart and cleaned it and it worked twice.
Now I have the infamous beep and red flashing lite on the roof button.
The plug for the CLP is corroded on one of the contacts and I can't get it apart so I could use the plug also.

My problem might just be the plug but there's no way of telling if the CLP is bad so I'll replace that too.

Anyone know the part number or where to get a new one?

You might try manually putting your top down and then see if it will go up using the button. If it does, it indicates a bad sensor, rather than the pump in the trunk. Do a search on this sight for how to manually raise and lower your top.

Just be sure to let the pressure bleed off before manually putting it up or down.

I manually lowered the top to rule out bad switches and it would not go back up electrically.
The pump is working but the top will not move and I get the infamous red lite in the switch and beep when the switch is depressed.
I know the pump is working because in order to put the top back up manually I had to release the pressure from the system.

Does this test rule out all the switches? My CLP was under water and I think that is the problem. I took it apart and dried it, it worked twice and then quit.

My battery is also going dead every two days or so now.

If the CLP is the problem is the problem does anyone know where I can get one and what the part number is?

That’s the part but you must buy one with the plugs in the sockets with pigtails on them so you can splice the plugs in. There is no point in using your old plugs if they are corroded from the same moisture that wrecked your pump in the first place. Make sense?
