Let's discuss the key fob transponder chip(s)
Re: Let's discuss the key fob transponder chip(s)
The future belongs to China, it is an awakening giant. Let us hope that the US military complex does not decide to start a shooting war as they see their power eroding.

And meanwhile back at the SKREEM, don't forget that the module also handles the other fob activities like locking and unlocking doors & gas tank cover. Best course is to simply change the program default to RFID key success.
BTW my replacement cover/key works so well that my old back cover with the badge just snapped to the new one.

I am working on a PDF explaining the system, it should be done in a few hours.
The BCM tells the pump what to do after the SKREEM says it is OK.

Correction:
Thanks 180 for the sourcing.
One additional worry on the last page of the PDF under the first bullet:
If so, then the PCM is just as critical as the SKREEM and key transponders.
Has anyone had a failed PCM? If so, was a replacement effected with a non-dealer/NeedsWings part (eBay, Amazon, etc?)
This is getting curiouser and curiouser...
Cheers,

One additional worry on the last page of the PDF under the first bullet:
- "Secret Key" is an identification number (electronically stored number) that is unique to each SKREEM, the PCM and all ignition key transponders.

Yes, that is a correct assumption.

As an importer of electronics from China and Taiwan in my business, I can tell you that "onehundred80 " is absolutey correct. You can't fight this procession. There is no way we can start up businesses in the good old US to compete with these Oriental products. I can say that China is probably where Japan was 30 years ago and now the cheap labor is Viet Nam of all places.

edmoncwheeler - So, does that mean that China will be making SKREEM modules and remote key's for our Crossfires? If someone made them for a reasonable price, I venture to say that better than 50% of the guy's on this forum would be buying them. Since you indicate that you are an importer of China and Taiwan goods, do you know anything about them copying our SKREEM module's or keys?

Re: Let's discuss the key fob transponder chip(s)
Actually, I purchased 9 brand new complete Crossfire key fobs. These had all the internals including a transponder chip and a blank uncut key blade. I disassembled the new key fob and the old damaged key fob. Then I put the old (correct) chip , the old circuit board and the old key blade all from my old damaged fob into the brand new key fob case. Everything worked correctly and immediately. I think I could have actually used the new circuit board and would just have needed to "program" the fob to the car. Directions here: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...tml#post146279
This is the post I remember CLICK and you did not mention the circuit board so I assumed you used the new board and not your old board.
Why not try to use the circuit board and see what happens.

Re: Let's discuss the key fob transponder chip(s)
I just contacted my local Chrysler dealer to confirm that they are now charging $800.00 for a new key fob part# 5099684AA.
Mercedes dealers offer the same key fob part# A1937600106 for $200.00!!
I would like to purchase the key fob from Mercedes and take it to my Chrysler dealer who would charge me $150.00 to program the fob to my vehicle.
The Chrysler dealer is telling me they will not guarantee that they can program the Mercedes key fob to my car, despite the fact that it's the same fob.
Question... Has anyone purchased the Mercedes fob and had it programmed to your vehicle?

Re: Let's discuss the key fob transponder chip(s)
I'm sure you can program the lock-unlock buttons to your car yourself.
But the RFID chip in the key that starts the car has to be programmed to the VIN by the supplier.
The dealer does not "program the key to the car", they only sync the fob with the SKREEM for hte lock-unlock to work, You can do that yourself in 15 seconds.
