filters & turbonator... and still i didn't win ... why?
i bought 2 turbonators and a pair of k&n air filters... (this is my story) i was driving my x.fire when suddenly see a new vw "bora" GLI (the jetta GLI in the states)...he starts to pushing me into a street race... well i agree, haha i love to do it, i thought i was going to defeat him but i wasn't ... why is that? i mean our x.fire has 215-218 hp (+ the power of my turbonator and the filters) and the jetta has 200 hp...from 0 to 60 our x-fire makes 6.4-6.7 and the jetta is around 6.9-7.2 ... what happen ... does the filter and the turbonator helps or they just make you lose power.
can someone help. |

What, praytell, is a turbonator? Sounds like one of those eBay rip-offs. |

turbonator is a piece of **** but a lot of people have told me that it really works ... check it out... http://www.turbonator.com/

Oh, that thing. Haha. That actually can hurt performance. It puts an extra restriction in your intake track. I'm not surprised that is making you lose power.

Re: filters & turbonator... and still i didn't win ... why?
turbonater = crap. Get it out of there. Go get yourself a sprintbooster. The throttle tip-in on these cars is leaves a bit to be desired and the SB will make the car feel and act peppier even though it adds no HP.

turbonator adds 2-3 horsepower. It has already been dynoed...

Re: filters & turbonator... and still i didn't win ... why?
the test finding revealed this product to be worthless...an absolute waste of money.
car & driver and many other mags have done reports on these "snake oil" product. findings...no improvements found...just a loss of a few bucks in your wallet and into theirs. "popular mechanics" titled "bogus mpg gadgets"... tested all the latest so called "improved mpg contraptions"... findings ... all proven NOT to work or improve mpg and a waste of money! "turbonator" is included in this test. junk...as i said from the get go. |

Since when is turbulence in the airflow a GOOD thing ? Slim p.s. MiniCooper S, you're the one who was so certain your Mini was "faster than a Crossfire"...Mini Coopers are cute little sporty econoboxes but can they go 150+ MPH ? I mean, without being towed buy a 'Vette or something... ;) |
Re: filters & turbonator... and still i didn't win ... why?
They did not work in the 70's or in the 80's or 90's for that matter...what makes you think that they will work in the new millennium? Pure smoke and mirrors, not worth the effort or price.

Re: filters & turbonator... and still i didn't win ... why?
lol ... gotta give a good ol laugh for the turbonator ... pure snake oil that tries to tout itself as a turbulence inducing device to help your engine ... this MAY have worked on old carbureted engines where fuel literally poured into the throttle opening point and had to atomize in one way or another before it reached the intake valves ... and old time car designers and drag heads knew this was accomplished by heating the intake manifold with coolant flow through a water jacket and causing enough turbulence to stop the air from hugging the walls by way of a rough casting finish on the interior of the manifold ... and then there was these guys pushing their turbonator that was probably R&D'd by some guy with a coke can and some tin snips ... who knows it may of worked on some horribly designed intake system back in the 60s - 80s ...
new car design is quite the opposite ... heating the intake tract reduces power so they attempt to keep the intake as cool as possible without affecting emissions (IAT temps affects EGT temps so they will affect exhaust gas composition) and the injectors are right at the valves so the intake tract is kept much smoother (as much as possible based on the quality of the casting, certain intakes such as the ones on 95 - 99 dohc neons could be ported and polished for a up to 15 hp gain to the wheels due to the poor casting quality inside, no so on the XF, this magnesium beauty of a manifold is sick !) ... sooo, introducing a device that is supposed to cause this good ol turbulence in the intake system on a car like the crossfire is in reality just providing a flow restriction ... still would like to see a dyno sheet on it just to prove the point as the 2 - 3 hp gain can be explained by lower coolant temp on the second run or just about anything ... want to get more power out of this car ? increase the timing by way of ECU retune (simple and effective AND proven if you go with a reputable company like SI) or potentionemeter install (if you do not know enough to know exactly what these are do not ask as it may end in engine damage for you) ... then free up the exhaust flow and get the SRT-6 intake setup. |

Turbonator? No.
What you need is some dryer ducting: http://www.laughatrice.com/images/Gallery19/g19p6.jpg |
