Won't shift out of drive or neutral...Help...

I have an 04 xfire, 30k mls and can't shift up past neutral! Which means I also cannot get my key out! I tried sticking the tool in the hole to disengage the shifter but no luck....any thoughts???

Bash it with a hammer...

Are you sure you used the tool right? Sometimes you have to be a little aggressive, I hear. If not, hopefully one of the members with an auto tranny will have some answers for you.

OK so I finally got the problem, and it was not the computer, BAS, or anything even close to that. I finally got everything apart and found a tinnnny screw lodged in the solenoid activated when you depress the break which allows you to move the shifter. From the looks of things, it looks like the screw came from the W/S switch on the inside of the housing, and it came undone and fell into the solenoid.

What a freak incident but at least i saved the $500 for a new shifter

!

I have the same problem. Did you have to take out the radio and the dash?
