This is a known problem with the CPS, when it gets hot it fails and when it gets cool enough it works again, but it sounds like yours is starting to go, get your CEL code read and that will help also diagnose the problem. Do a search on CPS (crank shaft posistion sensor) easy fix and around $30.00

Question oil filters

I went to Advance auto and they say that L25276 is the right filter. I got the L25277 because of what I read on this forum. BUT now after doing some more research it looks like it is wrong.
I believe our car is the same as a 2004 SLK 320. Is that right? IF so Advance has a 041-8169 Beck/Arnley listed for that car.
I would like to have some imput on this as I need to take this filter back if it isn't right. Thanks !

Mine did the same thing last summer. the CPS was the problem. My car is still under warranty, so i just took it back to them and the dealer fixed it. I did pick up a couple spare CPS and I keep one in the car and the tools needed since it’s a common problem, and an easy fix.

OBDII port is underside of dash near your left knee. I had the same problem with a ML320 and it was the CPS. It will do this every now and then until it is dead for good. Best to get it changed ASAP.

The OBDII port is right in front of the hood release latch..... (or behind, depending on how your brain works)

Look for the little black cover that snaps over it.

this is one of those need-2-do things for me. Before I go on a wild goose chase, can anyone hook me up with a link to a reputable seller for the $30 range?

I bought a bunch from here about 6 months ago but they were not manufactured by Hella. The Hella ones are now $53. You could always call them and ask.

pulled the codes today and sure enough crank shaft sensor. Installed a new one today. All seems to be good. I will say that the female torque's bit is a E8 if anyone was wondering.
Thanks again for everyones input.
