Who's using Blue Tops?

I'm thinking of getting some for next racing season. (no points added) I've read a lot on the LX forums but would like to know who has them in their Crossfire and exactly what and how they've worked out. I searched a bit and know Xray has them and likes them. So give me all your words of wisdom so I can buy in confidence. If you don't know what they are ...... well, I don't mind if you comment or ask.

Les, I think I would feel safer using the blue tops AFTER the Wavetrac LSD install....

Everything I have read on them is positive...just that the shifts are firm to VERY firm....(depending on personal feel) ...some mention of running in W mode for normal street driving to soften the take offs....

I have heard the same thing. I just found a tranny shop about 30 miles from here. Going to go visit. They do a lot of track work...Going to see if can do anything with mine. Taking my mechanical engineer buddy with me. He retired from allison transmission here in Indy. Picking his brain as well. Rudy gave us some pointers awhile back, and he has Paul's kicking really well...so there is hope.

Keep us posted. I have been thinking about going with the blue tops myself.

These are the valves inside the transmission... the stock car has brown top valves and there is a blue top version that gives higher pressure to firm up the shifts....

Re: Who's using Blue Tops?

The solenoids control the firmness of the shift. I've been doing some research on them and they don't speed up the shifts which is why I was considering them. The TCU controls the speed of the shift so were stuck with 2 second shifts.

that's right les, I was told the software would have to be changed, and they aren't familiar with the MB stuff...so back to the drawing board...but, RuBy is perfecting this, he's the one who will figure it out...with his little control box...which the transmission shop sells, but not sure if they can make it work with ours, and I am not spending $$$$ to experiment with these beauties...I like them as they are...

They quicken/firm downshifts more than the upshifts.

Holy crap...I hardly ever see you on MBWorld anymore let alone on here...must have been a slow day or I never look in the right threads.

Thanks for the input
