14" Braking System
 

Hey all! Yet again I come to a question that I have no clue on... and I have not seen much on the topic of changing the braking system completely... other then just pads ;) ... I was looking into 14" brakes for my Xfire! but here's the question... Since I want to change the entire braking system do I have to stick to only ones created for the Xfire... such as Renntech 14" ... or can I go and look into the Porsche, Brembo, and so on....

I love the brakes on my Crossfire but how sweet it would be to have extremely high power braking!

Bob, why do you want to spend $1000 (or more) on new brake system?

I had a Baer Track Kit www.baer.com on my Eclipse. 13.5" rotors, dual piston Vette ZR1 calipers. I could rip the front tires off the ground from speeds over 145mph. They did add some additional weight to the vehicle, but well worth it for that car. It was set up for road racing though.

I like the brakes on the Crossfire.

Why don't you donate $ 1000 to to your favorite charity,because every thing i've read on xfire brakes compared with Porsche,Jag,even Ferrari,bmw,etc,etc, stock they're almost as good or within 10feetof very exxxxxxxxxspensive ones.Ithink the pads and maybe crossdrilled rotors ,about $350 invested would even be on top of those cars!!!

The brakes on the crossfire are more than adequate for this car. $1000 isn't going to buy a set of Brembo's. I would spend my money on something else.

Why????.... because I want to thats why... I like the feel of extremely TIGHT brakes... is that a bad thing?!?! I think spending money on stopping your car is more important that making your car go faster then not being able to handle the stopping power....

anyone else wanta tell me some more brakes I could look into please and is it possible to change the brakes to any manufacture or does it have to be customly done to the crossfire?

I'm happy with my brakes...you just have to use it first before you decide to change. Prove mine to be working great when I was racing a mod 3000 GT in Houston at 120 mph in I-45 when another car in front of me slowed down all of the sudden...my brakes stopped 5 cars away from that car with no rattling nor skidding. ESP is great too! :D

I believe that the SRT has bigger brakes, at least that is what the Speed Channel Test Drive show said. Might be able to pick up all the parts from MOPAR.

Could swap them for AMG setup from the SLK surely. These are uprated 4piston jobbies with larger discs/rotors too I would imagine :)

I didn't even thinking about the SRT6 brakes lol! even though I took pictures of them ;)

The stats on the SRT I believe is 60-0, 5' shorter.The stats Motortrend xfire 60-0=113,114,AMG/C320,Clk,Cl55,E55,All with AMG brake upgrades,117,113,113,118 ft.Oh and just for kicks 911GT3/04, 113ft. so if you think you need more just do it!!

Oh i forgot to mention the price of those AMG cars are $20,000-70,000 more than the crossfire.

how about the weight and other factors that determine braking there buddy? ... why get lippy on me when I'm asking a basic question about cars that I dont understand... because im a f'ing Political Science major!!! ... :lol:

I'm a bit of a brake freak myself, but car mag statistics put our stopping power between 113 and 117 from 60 mph. That's short!
I like 'em the way they are, and I think they have a nice bite, but my question is about the pads.
Are people changing them because they want to stop shorter, because they last longer, or have less brake dust, or what? And which one's are they going to?

about a 95% reduction of brake dust. i have front and rear rotex pads on my crossfire.

Yah I changed mine to Porterfield brake pads! saved a ton of brake dust!!! ... but my other question is this thing called a brake hose? something that would allow the brake to feel different... I noticed when I changed my pads that the brakes feel softer! I really enjoy the hard feeling

You can replace the brake lines, yes. SUPPOSED to transfer more of the fluid pressure into the cylinders rather than expanding the hose.

will this cause the brakes to feel differently?
