Finally, 168 MPH!!!!!

Remember when I hit the speed limiter at about 155 MPH a couple of months ago?, well since then my car has more mileage, a Powerchip Gold 93 ECU upgrade and a custom 2.5" exhaust w/magnaflow muffler.

The guys at Powerchip told me the speed limiter would be a thing of the past and today I was finally able to verify that. I was driving on the same highway I did 155 MPH before, conditions were great, very few cars, not very hot and great visibility.

It took a long while to get there but the car managed to hit the 6,100 RPM rev limiter in 5th gear (Autostick) in a slight downhill, the speedo reads to 260 km/hr and the needle was past that so I had to calculate the speed and it comes to 168.4 MPH or 270.93 km/hr, not bad for a GT car.

Along the way I left behind all kinds of cars but worth mentioning are a Z4 3.0 on a straight line and a Renault Megane II Sport on the twisties.

You must be mad going that fast! I've not gone over 110mph in mine and that was by mistake.

I have to agree, he is somewhere between crazy and wanting to run for public office. I think his handle should be changed to "LOCOMEXICANCROSSFIRE".

I wonder how you could see what the make and model of cars at 168MPH. I have been 185 MPH in a ZR1 Stormman Norman Vett and I could not make out any car or model traveling that fast! Well maybe the color but that was it. Probably because I had my eyes closed because I was sacred to death.

Mexicancrossfire:
If you want to be sure how fast you are really going, just bring along a buddies hand held GPS as they are usually correct to about 1 mph. PS: you may want to find someone to go with you as I wouldn't take my eyes off the road at that speed. Let us know!

I've done on-track shake down on NASCAR Dodges for Penske and been to 200 mph in a properly fitted race car and safety equipment......but what you've done is nuts at best!

Keep it out of the gutters!!

Onfire!

Shake down for Penske! NICE! By the way, do you own a Crossfire and if so how do you like it?

Re: Finally, 168 MPH!!!!!

Yes I do (see signature).....and it has a few "extras" from the shop that I can't list. But let's say 290 hp on the dyno.

Dah! How could I miss that!
Now a new question! Are you saying 290 at the wheels? Which would mean 320-330 at the crank? Shy of a supercharger, I can't imagine that much hp. I see your with the airforce. Did you put a jet engine in that sucker? Come on, let me in on the straight poop! I won't tell anyone!!!!

Re: Finally, 168 MPH!!!!!

No supercharger, 290 at the crank and three letters A M and G. My time in an F14 and F/A18 have paid off 'cause I can handle the speed! Numerous laps at California Speedway in the Crossfire have validated that it is a really great performer.

This is my first post so at the expense of being flamed.... why the heck would you buy a car like this and be afraid of going over 110 mph? Get a Yugo or somthing.

Re: Finally, 168 MPH!!!!!

I've passed through 110 at least two times.....on my way to 150 and back down to 0!

He wouldn't be supercharged as he would have 330hp at the crank. Sounds like he did some internals to get that much hp and he did mention AMG. The regular mods ie: chip, exhaust and K&N's only get us about 20-25 hp.<>

Re: Finally, 168 MPH!!!!!

i dont think amg parts would do that without a supercharger, they turn the compression down on those motors. either way im interested to learn how someone has 290 hp and why they would keep that a secret from us. im guessing nos. but maybe he doesnt want to tell us that cuz of car dealers spying our forums nowaday.

ONFIRE 01-13-2005 11:33 AM

Re: Finally, 168 MPH!!!!!

There is no supercharger under the hood. With the connections I have within Penske, I've been able to get AMG components and had them pull the motor and install the "added" hp. I'm not at liberty to say what is or is not installed but the motor is blueprinted. What I can say is the compression is higher than the stock motor and has been "tuned" to maximize the torque in the low to mid RPM range. Whereas I'm sure that the car could get to ~175-180 mph, a long straightaway would be needed (and a little courage!). On the track, it gets to 60 in about 5.2-5.3 seconds and I've been able to turn laps at the speedway with an average speed in the 130 mph range.

The plan is to perhaps market a package mod, but one of the major stumbling blocks is the CA AQMD (smog guys). A goal would be to make this package available for less than $4K installed.....we'll see.
