Default Thumping Sound every few seconds at idle

2005 Limited manual transmission with 84,000mi. For about a year I've heard a slight thumping sound every 4-5 seconds at idle. It almost sounds like it's coming from the rear, but when I get out to listen under hood or rear of car, nothing. Today it was exceptionally noticeable, even felt it thump thru the steering wheel and shifter and it was about 2 seconds apart. Car runs fine, doesn't seem to be missing on timing. After driving 5 miles it's gone again. Ideas?

€ > I have a 2005 Limited Roadster ragtop with over 100,000 miles on it and I have the same thing but the car runs fine so I have no idea what it is, maybe one day someone will solve the mystery. Lol ! PS ; mine is an auto stick

Two things to check;

drive shaft mid-bearing and
exhaust/chassis interference.

Thanks Max I'll look into it and report back on what I find.

If you can reach them while on the ground (I couldn't-too fat) You may be able to just grab on and shake? I would suspect a shifted/failed exhaust hanger?

I doubt you’ll get an answer as this thread is seven years old.
