2005 Crossfire won't start
I have a 2005 Crossfire that won't turn over. It sat for more than two months and when I tried to start it all the dashboard lights come on but the engine won't turn over. There is no clicking like when the battery is low or bad. I tried recharging just in case, still nothing. Tried jumping with another car and nothing. Most of the posts on a "no start" problem sounds intermittent. I was not having problems prior to this.

Sounds a lot like the RCM
check out the thread in the Technical section How to Repair Relay Control Module (RCM) - (Mystery no Start) and be certain you have a good clean ground from battery to frame. |

check out the thread in the Technical section How to Repair Relay Control Module (RCM) - (Mystery no Start) and be certain you have a good clean ground from battery to frame. In addition to resoldering the 3 problematic ares, clean all the relay contacts with some electronic contact cleaner spray. |
Re: 2005 Crossfire won't start
If it is bad battery connections then this will happen:
You get in the car, turn the headlights on, and turn the key to start - the starter solenoid engages and the LIGHTS DIM WAY DOWN. If it is not bad battery connections then this will happen: You get in the car, turn the headlights on, and turn the key to start - and the lights don't dim at all. If it isn't the battery connections, I'd yank the RCM and get the solder reflowed at every suspect (or to say it another way, "cracked") pin on the board. It CAN be the contacts on the Engine Control relay but usually it's the solder around the pins that feed A+ to the PTCM. |
Re: 2005 Crossfire won't start
Mark, you must be a bunch smarter than me.
You get A+, all I ever saw was B+ Where does A+ come from ? I know B+ comes from the battery, so fess up. |
Re: 2005 Crossfire won't start
Battery terminals are clean, no sign of corrosion on terminals or where the cable grounds to the frame. Would the RCM cause the rear spoiler to raise and stay? Tried the console button and won't lower it.
Lights stay well lit no fade when on and try to start. |

Lights stay well lit no fade when on and try to start. The RCM can cause the same symptoms you are getting but I would not expect the fault to occur coincidentally after the car has sat for two months. The bulbs would not dim if the power is not being taken from them to power something else, so I assume your starting circuit has no power going to it. The lights may not be at full strength anyway, hard to see the lack of light in the day time if that is what you mean. |
Re: 2005 Crossfire won't start
I got it started. Removed battery cables, No sign of corrosion, put them back on.. Tried to start and it turned over but died. Jumped it with my other car and it started up. Did not act like a dead battery before. Spoiler still stays up but I can deal with that.
Thanks all for the responses. |
Re: 2005 Crossfire won't start
You still have a bad battery. Best get a new one ASAP.
( spoiler up is a classic symptom of a marginal battery ) |
