More Airbag Module Issues
There seems to be a lot of issues with the airbag midule p/n 5099301AA and AB.
i put my 2005 SRT Convertible to bed for the winter back in November. Ended up waking her up in May.
first thing the back window came unglued and fell in. 2nd time. Bought a new top to be installed next week.
Then the car wouldn’t start. Dead battery. It had been disconnected. Pulled and replaced with new one. Car started right up, warmed up and sounded sweet.
however the SRS Airbag light came on and would not go off. Took the car to my local mechanic (very trustworthy) to see if he could reset to trouble. It would not stay off. He read as did I that it might need a dealers machine to reset. He did not charge me. Took it to the dealer. Paid $139 to troubleshoot. Found out he has an older guy that was XFire trained. He could not keep the light off and said I need a new module. Brought the car home. Now trying to find a Module snd get it replaced.
Searched the Forum found that I am not the only one to have this problem. I am searching for the midule. Inline and eBay. Any thoughts are appreciated. 39,100 miles. Car is kept outsid and coversd.
Thanks

You are not the only one. Same as you, had the car immobilised for 3 months connected to a battery trickle charger. A few days ago i started her up with absolutely no problems , airbag light perma-lit.
Visited the local dealership (Greece) and they informed me that i need a new module 5099301AA . They quoted me for 4167$ for importing a new spare part + installation fees etc. Been scouring the internet for a used module however i am not sure if it has to be VIN programmed or not.
If you locate one please let me know, will also update this if i find it.

After scouring the internet i found this link: https://www.moparwholesaleparts.com/...dule-5099301ab
I used the code inscribed on this specific spare part and found loads of them on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_f...irbag&_sacat=0 , however i am unsure if it is compatible. Does anyone here have the expertness to confirm the compatibility ?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is compatible, however, neither rhe AA or the AB modules ate in stock. Discontinued. There are folks out there that say they van re-program and/or zero them out. But I haven’t found anyone who can actually repair them. I haven’t found any schematics fot the module. If I get mine replaced, I am going to open up the old one. As previously stated, the car runs great. But with the SRS light lit, it doesn’t give me a warm and fuzzy knowing the airbags will NOT deploy.
Where are you getting the Chrysler part number from? The part probably carries a Mercedes part number, look for the Mercedes part.
Chrysler put their own system number in their catalogs and charged twice the price for an identical Mercedes part.
If the part has a part number starting with A 193 XXX XX XX then it is a specific Crossfire part but not likely. Look at your part and look for the Mercedes or possibly Bosch part number.
Wise up folks.

Yes......
First of all guys, thank you for your tech info. The initial spare part no. 5099301AA was given to me by the stealership staff (after insisting). As mentioned earlier, i pulled the numbers off from the image of the spare part icon in the mopar site

And have found a lot of used ones on Ebay ranging from 20-130$. After spending a lot of time looking through that, what makes me unsure is that the same part has been pulled from older vehiles i.e. a 1998 CLK or 2002 S class and im not technically experienced to know if that it will work on our cars.
Regardless, the stealership way is definitely out of the picture here. I`ve currently booked another appointment at a private Chrysler garage on Tuesday just to see if i will be getting the same diagnosis. If it comes to that i`ll replace it with one from Ebay and hope it will solve the problem. Do you guys know if this part requires any programming / VIN match in order to work ? All i know is that after installation (with the battery - unhooked) i need to reset the indicator through a diagnostic machine.

Chrysler wouldn’t fix inherent problems at five years. I doubt they are going to fix anything at 15 years.
.
IMHO an airbag module is something you do not want to 'swap' with a different number because there just isn't enough information to let just about anyone know for sure there isn't a difference in its internals (calibrated for a specific vehicle). Air bag deployments may be closely set to the interiors they are installed in (the bags and their related sensors/control). I would ONLY look for and install one that has the exact number on yours (unless a documented trail of substituted parts are available). That's MY opinion, for what its worth.

That exact air bag module was used on 14 different Mercedes models; two of which are the SLK320 & SLK32.
IT WILL WORK ON THE CROSSFIRE!
The current price from Mercedes dealers is over $800.
SO, buy the module with part number 001 820 08 26 from ebay or a junk yard
If you have a friend or any one with a Mercedes program on their scan tool they will be able to clear your code and turn off the light in under 5 minutes.

Even after the 2nd visit the problem unfortunately remains. Strangely enough the car did not connect to the Mercedes Benz Star diagnostic nor did with the Chrysler diagnostic machine. It did connect through a normal laptop running a Mercedes diagnostic and the exact words of the mechanic were that there is a battery short-circuit on the airbag module sensor. He reseted the indicator (cyclespin) 3 times and he also concluded that most probably the airbag sensor module has to be replaced....
As soon as i figure out how to safely remove the automatic gearbox center console, I am going to remove the shortcircuited module and send it to a car electrician before purchasing an Ebay used one. Will update this thread with any news.
P.S. The mechanic informed me that no VIN programming is needed for this module , however it is possible that the 2nd hand sensor might need to be configurated through a Mercedes tool that only exists in dealerships (Greece).

These parts have a slightly different numbering system to the normal Mercedes part. The parts starting 001 are parts common to many cars models and do not start with the series number of the car for which they were initially made. They could be a common screw or nut etc.
A quick update on the matter, i was able to find this part/module that was pulled from another crossfire from the facebook group chrysler crossfire market. Received the 2nd hand spare part today and after speaking with my technician (private garage) , he informed me that as the orange sticker warns this part is "coded" to the specific vehicle and needs programming before operation. So, this means that ultimately these modules need to be vin programmed or somehow configured. This cannot be done at his garage and i will have to drop the car & spare part there , he will have to send both the faulty/burned one from my car and the 2nd hand spare part to a car electrician for programming and then we will see if the problem will be finally fixed.
Unfortunately due to it almost being August and summer vacations coming up , most likely i`ll be able to do this in the start of September. I will update this again as soon as there are news.

Others will add to this info, I am not into the solutions for the ABS.

I do not believe this at all, when installed the air bag light will be erased by the simple use of a good code reader, for the price they charge you could probably buy one of the code readers that can reset the air bag light, not all can do this.
