I'm the Forrest Gump of this site
Hello. I've been having top issues on my 05 roadster. Last year I replaced the 7 hydraulic cylinders, with the kind assistance of Klaus from Oregon, and everything was working fine, until they weren't working fine. Opened up trunk panel and found my main tonneau cover lift cylinder hydraulic line had popped out and squirted all the fluid out of reservoir. Filled it up again using turkey baster and Klaus approved hydraulic fluid, reattached hydraulic line and tried running it. Windows didn't go down when I unlatched handle over windshield. Think maybe issue is that I failed to reattach connection on side of hydraulic fluid reservoir. Would that prevent windows from going down when windshield release is engaged?

The switch in the windshield frame that senses your releasing the top from the frame sends a signal to the Top Control Module in the trunk - that module then tells the Body Control Module to lower the windows. Low fluid, I do nto believe, will cause the top module to not command a lowering of the windows. |
Thanks, Pizzaguy
I think you answered my question. You're the best. The top control module is what is screwed down in front of reservoir, and connection to hydraulics is attatched to the front of reservoir. Im pretty sure I didn't reconnect this contact point. The fact that signal goes through TCM in trunk is what I believe my issue was.

I think that when hydraulic line came free, it squirted fluid all over the tcm and killed it. So I'm going to start looking for a replacement, and put it up and down by hand, keepingy trusty 10mm open end box wrench and my allen wrench to lock down the window bow

:) Is there anything that can 'flush' the module PCB, like MAF cleaner? Seems to me this might be a possibility. :) . |

Is this an off the shelf item? I've never heard of it.
Just googled it. Will give it a try. Thanks. |

Even though it looks cooler putting the roof up and down automatically, the cool look of a top down crossfire is good no matter how you get there.

Please circle back and let us know whenever you resolve the issue(s)..... |

Got my roof working properly again. It was a simple matter of putting the supply line on properly and recharging the lines with hydraulic fluid.

Re: I'm the Forrest Gump of this site
Which supply line?
|
Re: I'm the Forrest Gump of this site
The one attatched to the main lift cylinder beside the control module in the trunk. Didn't have retaining clip tight enough and hydraulic line popped off. Monitored fluid level in reservoir afterwards to make sure no more leakage from other lines. If one is going to let loose, that's the best one, because it's the least difficult to get to.
