car won't start... help?

I drove my 2005 Crossfire coupe to work this morning, turned it off, then realized I needed to do one more thing. I went to turn it on again and all I got were dashboard lights. All lights and electrical seem fine. I just replaced the battery, RCM and CPS this month. Everything seemed fine until this! Help?

Automatic or manual?
All you got was dashboard lights. That's it?

Spoiler

Turn the key to the ON position and wait 20 seconds. Did the radiator fan spin up REALLY fast?

Manual transmission. I get all dashboard lights, and it "click-click-clicks" as it's trying to start. All electronics seem to work.

I'm def not hearing the radiator fan.

Also... I couldn't get my key (fob) to lock the doors, so I replaced the batteries in it. (May be completely unrelated.) Car still wouldn't start.

Re: car won't start... help?

Did you leave the key in the on position for twenty seconds to see if the fan spins up really fast? Did not see that in the video.
Where did you get the RCM from? Is it used? Was it refurbished?
When you changed the batteries in the fob did it then unlock the doors and operate correctly?
In the service manual(available for down load on this forum) on page 848 or 8F-36 it has the procedures for diagnosis and testing of the starting system.
Hope this helped

#1 I'd check your negative battery terminal ground wire where it is attached to the body just beside the battery. If that looks rusty and such take it off clean it all up, so any or all corrosion is gone and re-bolt everything cleaned up to the clean metal. IF that doesn't work check the actual exposed copper battery wire in the terminals and at the ground as that can degrade over time but it can be hidden inside the connector or even under the wire insulation as the decay has worked it's way up. In my experience with numerous cars things going totally screwy when you turn the key can be a sign of bad connections and wires at the battery terminals and the main ground. And it can happen in an instant when the flow of amps degrades to a point that all of a sudden nothing works on start-up. You can put a voltmeter on the battery or with the key in the run position stick a voltmeter into the cigarette lighter and it will read 12V+ but it's not about voltage with no load... It's about delivering that voltage with the amps that are required to start the car. Since you turn the key and everything goes to crap that tells me the first thing to check is degraded connections on the battery terminals, wires or the ground..

I tried again with key in the ON position (just to verify) for 20 seconds, and the fan did NOT spin up really fast.
RCM is new (not used or refurbished) Standard Motor Products RY-1562.
After I changed the batteries in the fob, it DID work properly to lock and unlock the doors.
I will check the service manual (as you suggest) at this point.

Thanks! It's looking more and more like a battery (or ground wire) issue.

My next big problem is to get the hood back open so I can check!! We shut it when the hood latch was really tight (had been stuck open)... now it's stuck shut, and all my pulling on the hood release isn't popping it open. (Heavy sigh.) It's always something.

Have someone lean on the hood with all their weight over the latch while someone else tries to pull the hood release under the dash. With weight down on the hood you may relieve some tension on the latch.

Please take a look at my recent post. It describes why a brand new RCM wasn't working for me until I did this...
