SRT6 Dome Light Won't Turn Off
So I just had my headliner replaced and ever since then I've had issues...
#1 - Dome light and power locks did not work - Fixed by replacing fuse #9 #2 - After replacing the fuse dome light will not turn off. Troubleshooting Completed: Started Car - tested both positions of the on/off switch for always on dome light button (no effect) Started Car - tested both positions of door open control for dome light control (no effect) Started Car - tested both positions of door open control for dome light and the always on dome light switch (no effect) I've also looked through as many guides on the forum as I can find to no avail. I've temporarily pulled fuse #9 to not drain the battery, but this also means I have no power locks currently. My guess is that they took the dome light down to complete the replace the headliner and it is somehow now wired incorrectly, I am not overly mechanical so I'm not sure how it should be wired or how to take down the entire dome light assembly without ruining my brand new headliner. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. |
Re: SRT6 Dome Light Won't Turn Off
If you are uncomforatable doing the troubleshooting and repairs yourself I would take the car to a independent MB repair shop.
If you are feeling like you can venture out and fix this one your self I have provided the information to get you a good start below. I pulled this from the service manual available for download from this forum from the link I provided below. Please follow up with us so we all may learn what you find. https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ollection.html Starting on 8L-129 has the troubleshooting steps. 8L-149 has the below steps for removal. REMOVAL 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Using a trim stick (1), gently pry down and away from the courtesy lamp switch/unit body (2) to release the lens cover. ZH LAMPS/LIGHTING - INTERIOR - SERVICE INFORMATION 8L - 149 3. Remove the retaining screws. 4. Using a trim stick, gently pry and lower the courtesy lamp switch/unit from the headliner opening. 5. Disconnect the courtesy lamp switch/unit harness connector and remove from the vehicle. INSTALLATION 1. Connect the courtesy lamp switch/unit harness connector (1) and align into the headliner opening. 2. Install the retaining screws and secure. 3. Install the lens cover into the courtesy lamp switch/ unit body. 4. Connect the negative battery cable. |
Re: SRT6 Dome Light Won't Turn Off
So I took apart the dome light assembly just now, and it appears pretty basic... simple on/off switch and a conditional switch based on feedback from the doors/trunk. I don't see how they could have messed it up. The wiring going into it is gated to prevent it from being hooked up backwards. I'm not sure where to go next.

Re: SRT6 Dome Light Won't Turn Off
I would follow the troubleshooting steps. 8L-129 has them in the service manual. It does look pretty straight forward. Check for shorts to ground. If you don't have a multi-meter they are pretty cheap at most auto parts stores. If you need to learn how to use it just PM and I will help you.
DOME LAMP CIRCUIT (CONTINUED) When Monitored and Set Condition ² When Monitored: With the ignition on. ² Set Condition: The Body Control Module (BCM) reports a short to power, ground, or an open on the Dome Lamp circuit. POSSIBLE CAUSES DOME LAMP CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE DOME LAMP CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND DOME LAMP CIRCUIT OPEN BODY CONTROL MODULE INTERNAL FAILURE For a complete Interior Lamps Circuit Diagram, (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/LAMPS/LIGHTING - INTERIOR - SCHEMATICS AND DIAGRAMS). Diagnostic Test 1. MEASURE THE RESISTANCE OF THE DOME LAMP CIRCUIT Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the BCM harness connector. Disconnect the Dome Lamp harness connector. Note: Check connector - Clean/repair as necessary. Measure the resistance of the Dome Lamp circuit between the BCM harness connector and the Dome Lamp harness connector. (Dome lamp #3 pin to BCM C4 Pin 8) Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? Yes >> Go to 2 No >> Repair the Dome Lamp circuit for an open. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST. No >> Go to 3 3. MEASURE THE RESISTANCE OF THE DOME LAMP CIRCUIT Turn the ignition off. Measure the resistance of the Dome Lamp circuit between the Dome Lamp harness connector and ground. Is the resistance below 10K ohms? Yes >> Repair the Dome Lamp circuit for a short to ground. Re: SRT6 Dome Light Won't Turn Off
So another friend took apart the dome light assembly and found the problem. There are 4 metal strips that act as contacts / wires / whatever into the wiring that leads into the system, it was bent just enough to short out the next contact from when they reinstalled it. I didn't notice when I took it apart.
We wrenched it back to a straighter line with some needle nose pliers and that seems to have resolved the issue. |
Re: SRT6 Dome Light Won't Turn Off
Another good example of making sure you check the simple basic things first.
Glad you found the problem and fixed it. Thanks for letting us know what happened. |
