I'm stumped on code p0446 please help

Hi all, I need your help. I have a 2005 crossfire coupe and my "check engine light" won't go off and I can't get it smoged. My mechanic said it was giving out code p0446 which has to do with the vent valve and he's already replaced it and still the check engine light won't turn off. If anybody has any ideas please let me know, my crossfire has been a great car and hasn't given me any major problems but If I can't figure this out then I can't smog it and I'll be forced to sell it and I love my car.

do u have a spare RCM.. that is a must everyone carries 1 or two
you can disconnect the batt ,drain it down , The car ,, by opening and close the door 3 to4 times
reconnect batt code gone if that does not work replace the rcm. here r a few other things
  • Gas cap replacement ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i doubt it
  • EVAP line replacement,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, check for broken hose
  • Replace charcoal canister,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,replace
  • Replace the fuel tank ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,we have had a few tanks collapse
  • Replace the vent control valve,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, u did that right

I do not think that is altogether true. It CAN be the vent valve but from what I understand, the ECM may be fooled into thinking the valve is not closing by leaks/breaks in particular parts of the EVAP system.
Normally, a gross leak will cause a P0455 but from what I understand, if the leak is not in the TANK or filler neck, but is in one of the EVAP hoses/lines, then an 0446 is the result and the ECM can't tell that it's not really the valve but the hoses/lines such that the ECM thinks the valve is not closing.

A much closer look at the entire EVAP system would probably be a good idea, as opposed to taking the definition of the code too literally.

Thank you pizzaguy and amx1397 for you advise it was very helpful. I'm going to have my mechanic replace the fuel, fuel pump, charcoal canister and charcoal canister shutoff valve all the the same time since he's going to be in the same area as all 4 parts and if that doesn't work I'll have him check for faulty wire and a crack/break in the fuel lines. These 4 parts even though they might not be the problem haven't been replaced ever so I'm doing process of elimination kind of thing. I still get alot of woow's and compliments every time I drive it anywhere and I love my little roadster so I don't want to give up on it. Thanks guys for your insight and I'll update on the results. Take care........

OK, not a bad idea, but the items you list are all FUEL systems items except for the charcoal canister, which is EVAP system part.

This is an EVAP code not a fuel system code. My suspects would be the canister or EVAP hoses/lines. Of course, I did fuel pump and filter/regulator a few years ago as my pump was seeping gas every so slightly.
Our cars are aging aging and all fuel and cooling hoses probably should be changed anyway. Many urge looking at brake lines at this time as well.
