Default Lights come on in ON position, everything dies when I try to START

Good morning/afternoon! A couple days ago I noticed some warning lights popping and going out. Now I get in, turn key to ON position and I hear the fuel pump run, all the lights come up, try to start and everything goes away. No power anywhere. Power randomly comes back after sitting for a bit. I'm checking RCM today, but has anyone else had this issue? Is this a common problem? I appreciate your time. Hope to learn a lot in these forums.

I have an 04 manual coupe if that helps at all. 120k+ miles!

You are describing a bad battery or really bad battery cable connections.

For example, you should be able to turn key ON, turn headlights on, and turn key to START and have your headlights and warning indicator lights still stay on (at reduced intensity but they should stay on).

None of the lights stay on when I try to start. I'll check battery cable ends. Battery is only a year old so I hope that's not it. I appreciate the quick reply!

I had one new battery last three months. Went DEAD in three days. Took it back to store, the guy warrantied it, said "We see this more and more these days............" replacement lasted five years.

Hey, if it turns out to be the battery or a bad connection, I'll be glad! Thanks again!

Be sure to check both ends of the cables.

Good news! We're back up and running. Both the cables and battery seemed alright. How picky are these on battery voltage? My batt was right at 12.6 output before I charged it, but it seems to be starting up with no problem now.

They are very sensitive to battery voltage. So many time people say I checked my battery, and it is good when it is not.

I appreciate the advice! Guess I'll keep a jumper on me just in case and maybe get a new battery if it happens again

A word of caution, they also do not like the spikes when being jump started.

A booster battery is fine. If you plan to "jump start" with another vehicle, budget for a new SKREEM/Seat Belt Module/Airbag Module. Im not saying you WILL destroy all three, but you will be placing them at risk.
The Crossfire is NOT a car you should attach jumper cables to - not to jump the Crossfire or to use the Crossfire to jump another car.

You might take note that more than one of us is saying the same thing.

Good to know! I assume you, and many others, speak from experience?

ZERACER and PIZZAGUY are the gospel when it comes to Crossfires.
Take a look at how long they have been on this forum and how much information they have shared.
Both have helped me out immensely over the years.
Thanks to both.
Enough said!

I believe it. 'Admin and 'Senior Member' aren't titles you just stumble into. I'm super thankful for the help and advice. At 120k miles, I'm sure my Xfire will be needing more help before long. Can't wait....well I can but, you know.

Here is a link to Crossfire repairs and information if you have not found it already.
Invaluable!
I also read the daily posts to see what is happening and what problems arise and what the solutions are.
And welcome to the forum from Canada.

If you like detailed pictures for repairs and maintenance, check out my thread. Every time I work on my car I do a write up with detailed pictures and captions.
Scroll to the bottom of the first page and click on the link that is related to what you're working on.
Best of luck with your car!

What do You, personally, think about using a quality portable Lithium-ion booster ? I already own a Noco Boost GBX45, but never had to use it on the XF, yet

Thanks . . . Daniel

Try to avoid jump starting a Crossfire if at all possible but if you must, a portable booster is preferred to jump starting it with another vehicle. And you are correct, quality is important.
