Air Bag Control Module Replacement
Good day. I hope this finds everyone well.
I have a 2004 Crossfire Limited, manual tranny and I need to replace the air bag module under the center console.
MY Questions:
For a 2004 model, will I need to have the replacement module reprogrammed for my car (VIN)?
Is there a specific Model# of module to look for?
Once installed, will the DTC reset itself after driving a while (like normal vehicles), or will I need to manually reset it.
Is there a shop or anyone in or around Houston who has a DRB3, and if so; would you be willing to meet up and check/ reset any codes I may have?
BTW, if anyone has a question or needs help with a problem, I DO ALL MY OWN WORK and have fixed all the known problems, and many, many more problems I see in old posts but with no proper solution posted.
Such as the mysterious battery drain, AC blend valve (both simple intake manifold leak and solenoid change, a complete AC system replacement to include controls, thermostat gremlins, timing chain replacement and cam alignment, alternator- Do Not buy the original replacement!, mysterious warning light when all exterior bulbs appear to work, how to properly upgrade all bulbs to LEDs W/O messing with CAN BUSS, REPAIR CRACKED OR BROKEN INTERIOR TRIM, new stereo but no sound, installing a backup camera, and a laundry list more.
I'm an engineer, not a mechanic but grew up poor and learned if you can pay a man to fix it, you can read a book and fix it yourself, and I've been building pre-war hot rods and vintage engines since I was 12.
Thanks.

Here is a link to a thread that discusses this same issue: Airbag Module There is good info in this thread and post #12 should be helpful.
Good luck!

As an engineer, my mind won't let me "not know".
I'll research this thoroughly and post what I find. It may take me six months, but you can trust my posts.
If you ever need anything, the probability I've run into it and found a fix for it is high.
NO ONE works on my sh*^.
My replacement module that I bought for my SRT had not been in a crash (per the seller). It worked fine without a reset. I took a chance and it worked. Just need to clear the stored codes after replacement.
Thanks everyone.
Now I'm going to ask the age-old question of does anyone have suggestions for a "plug and play" OBD reader for a 2004 w/MT that will locate and clear codes in the SRS?
I want to ensure it is the module and not something else. Bags have never been deployed; light just appeared one day.
A less costly version ($200) I prefer one that is bi-directional.
I don't want to mess with the laptop WiTech OBD3 Emulator.
Cheers.

One question first, have you done the reset by turning the steering wheel all of the way to the left, then all of the way to the right and back to center?
The "lock to lock" solution did not work. I'm going to pull it out and send it off to MyAirbags.
This past fall, I pulled the engine and tranny because I had two cylinders down on compression and it was time to check the timing chains. I found cracked rings in four cylinders, so I honed both banks to .010" with new rings. I also decked the block, decked the valve covers (no more leaks), changed the timing chains and gears, installed a new rear main, and changed the flywheel, pressure plate, pilot and throw out bearings. I also changed out the entire A/C system to include the evaporator and heater core. While in there, I found vacuum tube coming off the manifold was rotted and that was causing my blend door problem. But when it comes to diagnosing squibs and chasing down signal channels, BLAH! No fun, send it off. My Airbags said if it's good, no charge so no loss there.
I'm a "shade tree mechanic" but I have been building hot rods and engines since the age of 12, so sending it off is hard for me (no one works on my stuff). I'm not sure if you can still see them but in my photo albums, I have pictures of some of the cars I've built to include my '32 Lakester which I built by hand. I designed and made everything from the frame to shaping all the body panels. She's pushed by a '49 Mercury 8CM Flathead V8 topped with (3) original Stromberg carbs. I have her, 519hp Keith Craft powered '65 AC Cobra kit car, '34 Ford Sedan hiding a .401 Buick Nailhead out of a '65 Wildcat, but I recently sold my '64 Covette.
BUT...Out of all the cars I've built, driven, and raced, these little Crossfires are the most fun. I love them and searching for parts makes it all the more fun to me. I bought our first one in 2008 because my wife wanted something small to navigate the narrow streets of Key West where she worked. I've owned one ever since.
Two years ago, A friend and I missed the Texas Mile 200mph club by 13 in a 2004 GTO w/ a .323 LSXR bored and stroked to .376 CID huffing through two Garrett 3582XR 68mm turbos.
I'm considering ripping everything out of another '04 Limited and retrofitting it with a '54 .264CID Nailhead I have, turbocharge it, and go for that 200mph again.
I'll let you all know how this SRS problem ends and any bits of information I find out. If you ever have a question, reach out. I don't know everything, but I do see a lot of wrong or bad info traded on this forum.
