The air filters are in the underneath, back side of the engine cover. Just lift the cover up from the back, turn it over, and you will see the air filter compartments.

...and remember, the air filters come two to a box. My dealer did not know this and double ordered.

If you are ordering K&Ns, they come one to a box...so you must order two.

And you are going to need a Torx Driver to get it apart. It is either a T25 or T30.

Found this thread with a Yahoo search. Last entry indicates a torx screwdriver is needed. Where are the torx screws that it will be used on ...

Thans mates...popeye

The torx screws are only on the SRT-6 engines.

This site discusses the airfilter replacement on our 3.2 liter engine and has pictures:

Attached is a PDF file that shows the service steps for the air filters. Not much detail on removing the air inlet tubes. Looks like they just slip out of the air cleaner assembly.

I've made some files of typical servicing on the XFire for my use. Have these in my garage for easy access & reference. Keeps from having to load the CD for some of the more routine stuff.

just a small note, i try to have the filter housing a little bit warm as not to crack it. on colder days its a good tip. the hole for the oil fill can be cracked real easily, its kind of thin there and what ever you do DON'T PULL ON THAT AREA.

For the N/A Xfire you'll need a 25 Torx bit to remove the Filter Covers.

I don't have an SRT (poor little me), but if they have Torx Screws, most likely it's the same as the N/A (25 Torx)...

Now that I have changed my engine air filters... after how many miles do they need to be changed driving a mix of city and highway miles?

Basically, when they look dirty. Make it a part of your oil change routine to check the filters,
OR buy a set of K&N's and refurb them yourself ......
( usually around 14-15k miles )

IE, every other 'service interval' which is 7000 miles.
The air filter is on the 'B" service interval, you alternate 'A' & 'B' intervals ......

THANK YOU for the reply. I felt the mechanic was trying to rip me off when " I " replaced the air filters barely over 6000 miles ago. I read the A and B schedule in the book, but it didn't compute in my head what they meant. Now I know. Great advice. Thanks again.
