Dead Battery - Can't get in my car!!!

I left my headlights on in my srt-6 and now the battery is totally dead and I the locks don't work. I can't even get in manually because everything is electronic. How am I supposed to boost the battery if I can't even get in the car???

The key turns but the lock doesn't pop up.

~ you can't even unlock the driver's door with the key inserted in the hole??

pneumatic but i would figure this could still be done manually with a turn of the key.

You may have to check with the dealer.

If you have a coupe possibly you could open the rear hatch with your key and crawl through to open the doors with the inside handles or open the hood to access the battery for charging.

Very interesting problem, please let us all know the outcome !!!

I'm surprised this has never come up before. Quite a dilemma. All the locks are pneumatic and require the pump to run in order to open the doors or rear hatch. I must agree, this is a BUMMER!

So this means if you have a leak in you pneumatic system, even with a good battery, you will not be able to open the doors mechanically with the key? So if your going to store your car you better leave it unlocked or you might not be able to get in if the battery dies or the air leaks out. Did we finally find a flaw with German engineering? Hope someone has an answer.

A far fetched idea.

Since your battery went dead because you left your lights on, the light switch should still be on.
According to the manual, the side marker lights are removable from the outside, to replace a bulb.
If so, you could access the socket, and feed current to the system.
But don't screw up on the positive/negative!!!

I have no idea if this would work. I would only try it if I had the car at home, and the freedom of time to do it.

Then there is something wrong with your door. The service manual (page 8N-43) shows that the key is directly connected to the door lock. This makes sense since there has to be a way to manually unlock the door in case the central locking pump/security system module fails.

I'm not entirely sure what to tell you, but I would recommend against trying to feed voltage into one on the external bulbs in hops of powering the car since you stand the chance of damaging the voltage regulator or switching electronics.

Your best bet (IMHO) would be to jack the car up, pull the lower splash shield, and try and manually release the hood latch from underneath.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

can't you use a coat hanger thought the top of the window, to pull the handle? even if its locked, when you pull the handle the door will open.

Re: Dead Battery - Can't get in my car!!!

The locks may have failed because the car was left out in -17 degree celsius weather. Anyways, I ended up calling a tow truck to come sort it out. The battery was totally dead. We had to charge the battery for 15 minutes just to get the engine started again.

NOT GOOD, NOT GOOD, I hope there is a solution to this. I hope it is correct that the key should work, if all else fails.

How did you manage to get access to the battery then?

Dude, the same thing just happened to me today. I paid a place $35 to pull on the handle through the window (with their hanger) it worked. So much for the xfire's anti-theft abilities. All you need is a metal hanger because the alarm does not even work with a dead battery!!!

Because of what I have just read in here I went out and unlocked my roadster in storage...don't need a problem like this one happening. That's not good!!

This is too funny...
I was thinking about shaving the door handles but I didn't want to have to bother with an emergency release in case of failure.
I guess if this info is true shaving the handles would not change that much since I always lock my doors...
Lol.

Old news. It use to work with 80 German stuff till they installed vacuum check valves.
They actually had recalls on it I remember seeing it on 60 minutes a long long time ago.
