Sticky Ignition Key Fix for all Crossfires 2004 thru 2006
Re: Sticky Ignition Key Fix for all Crossfires 2004 thru 2006
Well the transponder is plugged in correctly and does not look damaged so is it possible it is just not lined up correctly? The guide says to have the wire end on the same side as the flat part of the key tumbler. When I go to start the car there is an engagement of an immediate kill switch to the car. Key fob is able to lock and unlock doors, so it must be a transponder issue not transmitter or key itself

I am new to the forum and just got my crossfire, but already have problems with the key not wanting to turn, so far has not locked up completely. I have the pdf just want to make sure that the spring and pin that you remove at the end of the pdf are the parts that are causing this issue? And I don't need to buy any new parts if I follow the pdf instructions? I don't want to mess it up and have to pay to have it fixed.

Re: Sticky Ignition Key Fix for all Crossfires 2004 thru 2006
A lot has been written on this site about this problem. I was having the problem of the key not turning, and having to try 6 or more times turning the steering wheel, etc. until it finally worked. I also read about others who were finally unable to turn the key at all, requiring a tow to the dealer and a bill for $1500.00 or more to fix. I want to thank Crossbow 39 for his nice thread on how to do this. I am a visual guy and thought I would take pictures and post a thread to help others. I also learned a few tips which may help others.
1.) Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2.) Remove the fuse panel access door to the left of the steering wheel, in the door jam area.
3.) Remove the air vent above the headlight switch. It just pops out.
4.) Remove the lower trim panels. First remove the "U" shaped panel below the steering wheel (one screw). This gives you access to 2 hidden screws which need to be removed.

Rekcahs post should be moved up to the first post, his work on it has saved thousands of dollars for members here and he should get the thanks due him.
If this is possible it should be done.

Turn the steering wheel fully to the left and fully to the right and then Center it, it resets this way after disconnecting the battery.

I wanted to say thank you, thank you and again thank you for this thread. It has saved me a lot of headache and money. My ignition locked up on about 5 miles away from home at a gas station. Got it towed home and read everything in the thread. It helped tremendously. Again, thank you.
