valve cover gasket(s) failed
I have a 2007 coupe. Noticed drops of oil on floor of garage. Took to the place where I had oil changed, thought it was something they did.
They showed me that one of the valve covers been leaking for some time, and one on other side just starting too.
Car only has 27,000 miles, treat it like a baby, really surprised this happened. Thought the mercedes engine was supposed to be bullet proof.
Anyway;
Any one else have this problem?
I assume it's under warranty, is this a big repair?
Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks!!

You are not alone. The #1 leak area is the smaller "piggy-back" covers on either side.
It will be covered under warranty. The small covers (if those are the problem) are sealed with high-temp RTV and is a very easy fix for the shop.
Let us know? I would be surprised if it was the main cover gaskets. That would be rare.

Do a search as I believe some leaks have been stopped by re-tightening the screws that hold the covers down to the correct torque and in the correct sequence.
I have both problems
The PCV covers are leaking, in addition to the main valve cover gaskets
07 with 27k-ish miles
I left the car in storage for 4 months, when I did a first startup it smoked for 15 minutes burning off all of the ecess oil that had leaked

Took to dealership. They kept it long enough for the engine to cool down, did repair, and said it should be end of problem. Only surprise was they said it needed "two air filters' cost about $120...said co that did our oil changes wouldn't know how to check the filters and couldn't get the filters if they did....does that sound right?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Ouch.
Are there actually two air filters? My wife was good enough to drive the car the 150 miles there, so I can't blame her. What should it have cost?
Thanks again, I appreciate your help.

The best replacements are K&N filters-33-3290
34.99 each
Removal and replacement instructions here
Just got it back from dealer a few days ago. Appears leak is fixed, but unfortunately a new problem had popped up.
When taking off from a dead stop, it will hesitate/stumble a bit at times and it feels like for a second it is going to die, then it takes off and is just fine. Just talking about normal to slow acceleration from stop.
It is a 2007 with 5 speed auto.
Has new tank of 93 octane fuel, as always, has 27K miles, never had problem until we got it back from the Chrysler Dealership. May be coincidental?
Any ideas??
Thank-you

Just went out and iifted hood. Passenger side of the large silver cover over top of engine is not attached and could move quite a bit. Do you know how to attach it?
This just keeps getting better and better I'm sorry to say.

When I got my car the cover was not in place and I had to polish out the rub marks from the hood insulation rubbing against it. There is not much clearance there, if any, I suspect the hood insulation sags and lays on it with the hood closed.

look for any hoses that were left off after their professional installation of the air filters....next time you are at the dealership, show them the price of 2 K&N filters....crooks...
My wife's '05 was having the same trouble. Took it to the local indie shop, they did both the small side ones with the RTV and new gaskets for the large ones. They are hurting for business because of road construction, got the whole job done for a song.
