Default enclosed car hauler?

Does anyone have or use a enclosed car hauler? I tend to drive my Crossfire but...I don't have a garage to park inside so I will buy a enclosed car hauler to store it in, my building codes where I live doesn't allow me to build a garage. If you do have a enclosed car hauler what size is yours and do you drive in foward or back in etc and can you open the doors once inside? 90% of the time it will be used as a "garage" for my baby.

you have to load a car nose first, otherwise it unloads the tongue of the trailer and thats dangerous when towing, it can cause the trailer to sway, tires to fail or even flip the trailer.

at minimum you need a 16 or 18 foot trailer. all enclosed car haulers are 8ft wide so you have some room to open the doors, its not a huge gap but you can get in and out of the car. unless youre fat lol.

We always size our trailers over, since we haul wheels, tools, etc and its nice to have to the extra space.

You also need a rig to tow it with. the smallest we've towed with was a ram 2500 gas truck. So so on straights, sucked going uphill.

You really need a 1 ton diesel truck to pull a loaded car hauler effectively and economically

A pop-up garage would be cheaper...

Hopefully you don't live where there is zoning ordinances, or HOA restrictions.....and they do make 102" trailers now, and I wouldn't go less than 18'....good luck

Worse, I live in a Condominium with an HOA ****-lady.

And i'm cautious as to offend the ***** by comparing her to them...

Sadly, my baby remains parked outdoors every night.

I'm still putting in for my government shelter to protect it from melanoma.

I own a 20'X8' enclosed car hauler. Always load front first. I use the center seam on the front bulkhead to line up the center seam of the hood when driving in. Works great.

I had to bolt down two 2"X14" boards on the floor to raise my lowered SRT6 up just a bit so the door will clear the fender wells when I get in and out. I stapled a piece of indoor-outdoor carpet on the DS paneled wall to protect the door when opened.

I have plenty of room up front for tool boxes, ect... I plan on installing a larger personnel door so I can get one of my motorcycle in and out with the SRT6 tied down.

Just remember - you need to have the tounge of the trailer secured to a truck when you load and unload - or rig up a real secure steel post in the ground with a towing ball....

I have a tag 32' Pace Shadow GT enclosed.
I can park 2 cars in there - I prefer to use an electric winch to load. You can see exactly were that car is placed and no problem with the doors.
A small "ATV" winch will easily load a car up the ramp.
So far has been a great "garage"

If you drive down to the Bristol IN area...there are a lot of trailer builders, and they have cut their prices...I have seen some really nice, brand new ones going in the 3800-4500 range...and those are used trailer pricing....

Hi there,

This is my first post on the forum, and I'm picking up a 2005 SRT-6 roadster tomorrow with my 18' flatbed trailer. I also have an electric winch on the front of the trailer, and rather than driving on and worrying about the doors hitting the fenders as I exit the car, I'd rather just winch it on.

Where on the Crossfire do you hook your winch to? I know there is a tow hook somewhere on the front, but is that the best winch hook point?

Thanks so much!

Never winched the Crossfire - but I would not attach to anything other than to the tow eye. (front or rear)
Far safer than anywhere else.
Just watch the ange of entry so your cable does not rub paint.

Thanks for the info, 70GT6. I was able to safely winch it onto the trailer using the front tow hook with a strap through it. Hauled it 600 miles home and it's now sitting in my garage.

A lot more fun to drive it that 600 miles....last time I tried to tow mine, the trailer broke down....never towing again....well, at least to a get together...I just passed by a few trailer builders while in the Bristol IN....area...lots of car trailers on their lot....

oledoc2u, I agree the XF would have made the drive even more fun, but I do enjoy driving my '03 Dodge Ram with the Cummins on long trips. It pulled my trailer like it wasn't even there and got 18mpg. Can't complain about that.

That is a beautiful ride. What happened to the SRT wheels for it?

Thanks! Good question. I bought it from the original owner and I asked her that as well. Those wheels were on the car when she bought it new with 113 miles (proven by CarFax). It had sat on a dealer lot in Texas for almost a year before going to another dealer up in Missouri where she bought it. My guess is the Texas dealer swapped wheels with a Limited during that time.

This may be blasphemy to other SRT-6 guys, but I actually prefer the 7-spoke wheels. I've been searching for the right car for over a year, and this one was apparently just meant to be mine.

I would not say blasphemy.... I think most of us feel like we should do to our cars what makes us happy, whether it is to leave them stock, or do heavy modifications. Congratulations on finding the perfect car for you.

Shoot, pretty soon I'll be looking similar to that... Seven spoke wheels and the über-sexy SRT wing.

Honestly, on the Alabaster, I think the Limited wheels will be a better fit. They'll "pop" better against the white...

I thought there was an issue with the 7 spokes fitting over the larger brakes.....guess not.
