Coolant changes colour...

Two weeks I replaced the coolant on my car. What was in the car at the time was green, and what I had delivered was orange.

So I drained the coolant from the rad, flushed with water and run that engine until it was running completely clear.

I then refilled with the orange coolant.

But now...its turned green!!! Does this normally happen with G-05 coolant? I highly doubt that its mixed with stuff in the engine as its the header tank thats green. When I mix in fresh coolant thats orange, the cooler changes...then goes green again after a run.

Standard G-05 behaviour or not?

If I remember correctly the OEM coolant was a deep blue, I flushed my system out pretty good but when I added the G-05 the result was and still is a greenish color.
Standard reaction, blue plus yellow = green.

I just last week flushed and filled with G05. I looked yesterday and it's all yellow.

I think you have a mix of old and new, my friend...some was left somewhere...

I did a flush and fill some time back and I calculated that I had about .37 liters of the OEM coolant left in the system. This left a slight greenish tinge to the new coolant. When I say light I mean really light.

I'll take a pic tomorrow.

But pretty much I drained all coolant, kept a constant flush until clear with no engine running, flush with engine running and heater matrix hot, then waited till clear, fully drained again and refilled with 50/50 mix of coolant and deiionized water.

I would say I got over 8 litres in, closer to 9 most likely as I only have a tiny amount of booth coolant and water. The green is very light in comparison to the extremely dark green of the previous coolant, it was almost like it was running pure as its consistency was so thick.

Well, that would explain the green tint now. My coolant (OEM/delivered) was blue.

Had a look....its yellow! Yellow with an extremely, extremely slight green tint to it.

Not going to worry.
