Looking to buy

Hello all, I am just after a bit of advice, I am selling my mazda 3 mps which is a rapid car, however I am after a 2 seater and I am looking at a crossfire, tt or 350z, the things I am looking at are what you think of them although I know you will be biased haha, but can you tell me more about the crossfire, like how easy it is to mod, prices for intakes, remap things like that, and if there are any reputable tuners or specialist who deal with the crossfire, I live in the North East so anywhere around this area, please give me any info, big or small on this car please.

I have roughly £7k, are all the models the same, I have seen auto and manual gearboxes, anything to look for when buying.

Thanks in advance for any info fellas

Soren

Re: Looking to buy

Not ignoring you, just thought someone local would advise you. I have a couple of vendors I like for parts. One is Needswings, who has several add-ons to make you faster. Once you have the parts, a tune is in order. I use Eurocharged for that. There are other modifications you can do, and there are several threads discussing that on here as well. As far as the XF verses the TT or the Nissan, well, we all love our little cars on here. So, I wouldn't be interested in either. I have the supercharged version, and none of those cars will perform with mine. Either of mine... Hopefully, some of the car owners nearer to you will post up. Any further specific questions you have?

Well I guess as you posted on the UK forum a lot of them are thinking of going to bed at this time. The UK owners often seem to post only in the UK forum. They seem to keep a lot to themselves in that way.
For you though read this thread. (CLICK)
One hint, get an SRT6 and save the expense later when you wish you had got one. ;) They are cheap over there so no problem. Mind you we would rebel at the gas and road taxes. Balances out in the end I guess when everyone can afford the car but many can't afford to keep it on the road.:(

As has already been said it may be something to do with the timing of you question !

I'm sure you will get answers - you may just have to be a bit more patient :)

Good luck in your search and as you say we may be a bit biased but we are also realistic :)

Re: Looking to buy

Hi soren40, welcome to the forum.

It is a bit quiet on here at the moment, many owner put the Xfire to bed for the winter:D

Well I own 3! SRT-6 Coupe, SRT-6 Roadster and a Limited Coupe

The choices you have are quite simple,

Limited or N/A are available in Coupe and Roadster, Manual and Auto 3.2 V6 215 Bhp

SRT-6 in Coupe or Roadster only Auto with an AMG 3.2 supercharged V6 350 Bhp. the spec say 330 but AMG never produced any engines at the power;)

They are all pretty bulletproof, parts can be hard to find, but not impossible and can be quite pricey.

You will struggle to find an SRT-6 as there are only approx. 100 in the UK and they don't come up for sale very often but if you can find one, it is the one to have.

I have no idea what the MPG is as I don't care:D

with your 6k budget you should find a good N/a, buy with your head not your heart. not any Chrysler dealers anymore so see where it has been serviced, loads of stamps in the book are useless without the invoices to back them up. Most important make sure only Mobil1 or equivalent engine oil has been used.

All in all there isn't really anything to particularly to look out for other than the obvious when buying any used car.

good luck with your search, keep us informed.

Mo

Re: Looking to buy

Things do go quiet on the UK section occaisonally, although this is the quietest I've seen it for a while...!
Anyway, at the risk of stating the obvious: as you say, your options are auto or manual for the standard car - trim-wise, they are the equivalent of the US 'Limited' model (although a few so-called 'Base' models have appeared in rhd - cloth seats, no front fogs etc) - and the auto-only SRT6 - which I would recommend 'cos it don't need modding (unless you can't help yourself) - it's a real beast as built! - and it's a lot rarer - only just over 100 came to the UK, compared to approx 3000 standard cars.
Unusually, a few SRTs have been up for sale recently - expect to pay around £8k for a decent low-mileage example, although if you're lucky, you might get away with nearer £6.5k.
A good standard car will be about £4-6k depending on condition & mileage, although an earlier one with low miles & good history could be a better bet than a later on with higher miles which is only more expensive 'cos of its age - but then the paintwork might be a little better...
Talking of which, with 2003/4 cars, watch for rust around the rear wheel arches - they must be kept clean - they're not old enough for it to be bad yet (usually) but if it's there, obviously better if caught early - even some otherwise fastidious owners can neglect this vital area - and check the bottoms of the doors behind the weather seal - this can stay damp and some have been known with the beginnings of rust here; although not a problem on most cars, it's worth watching for. Finally on rust, most cars have a little around the boot latch but again, not a big deal and easily fixed if necessary.
You're probably aware that mechanically they are a Mercedes 320 SLK so are very well built and reliable - the SRT6 is an SLK32 AMG - better brakes, transmission, suspension, engine and supercharger- well worth the extra IMHO.
Some parts are getting a little harder to find but source them from Mercedes rather than Chrysler - they'll usually be cheaper! Same for servicing - an independent MB shop will usually be a better bet than a Chrysler 'stealership'!
I've done no modding myself so can't really comment on that and others will tell you about any technical issues (not that many TBH) but, if they don't, just search this forum - there's masses of stuff on here for you to do your own research.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Re: Looking to buy

Think i might wait to see if a SRT comes up then, i like a bit of speed, my mps is rapid especially with the mods, should get between 10-11k for it so i do have the budget for a SRT but need a family car aswell so was wanting to pay 6-7k but might go slightly higher if i can find a SRT. if any of you spot one before i do let me know haha

Re: Looking to buy

Haha will deffo be looking to add a few things mate, like new filters, maybe exhaust but would deffo want a remap, any good places to go mate?, sorry for my ignorance as not looked into these motors too much, but how can you tell the difference between the SRT and a normal crossfire

oledoc2u 12-06-2013 12:42 PM

Re: Looking to buy

The front bumper cover has a lip to it, and the rear wing is a fixed wing. No pop up spoiler. Wheels are different. SRT has more spokes. Remap is actually a new tune done to the ECU after you have done all your modifications. Like if you add a Needswings dual cold air intake, you would have to tune for that. Personally, I would read thru some of the threads on here. The 3 easiest mods, and the best bang for the buck, is a cold air intake of your choice, a new supercharger pulley 65mm, and a tune by someone like Eurocharged. You will see significant improvement in acceleration.

Wheels (twice as many spokes to keep clean!), front spoiler, big rear wing, badges, no red ones (boo!)
Only came with black interior - suede/leather seats with SRT in headrest; 200mph speedo and SRT6 in rev counter.

Re: Looking to buy

Soren40, it is really infinite what you can do to the SRT. Rear end changes, transmission tune, intake manifolds, cooling, and I could go on and on. We only have a few vendors, but plenty of go fast mods out there. It only takes money and time...lol Go get one bought and start having fun like we all have. Don't rule out the regular XF. They are very good on their own. The SRT is just a little more rare.

Re: Looking to buy

Yeah wont rule anything out but would like the SRT if i can get one, and if so i will get the relevant mods

You have to be quick if you want an SRT-6, they don't hang around for long, especially when the seller has no idea what they are selling and puts a "give away" price tag on it like that one ;)
