anti squeal shims

Should anti-squeal shims or lube be used when replacing the front brake pads? I'm replacing both cars with Rotex. Do they make shims for these pads? What lube have you used and how do you apply it?

Thanks,
Cliff

no added shims needed...

~ i recommend applying 'anti squeal' lube... http://www.international-auto.com/in...ake_Quiet.html

and

~ add brake grease to contact points... http://www.lubegard.com/automotive/b...pergrease.html

or like products.

For clarification, the front brakes have thin metal 'shims' already behind the pad between the pistons and also between the pad and outer caliper surface.

I recommend anti squeal compound to the contact areas between these 'shims' and the pads and brake grease between the shims and their contact points on the pistons and caliper.

Re: anti squeal shims

Rotex pads are probably fine on the SRT6, I'm daily driving on race compound pads and they squeal a bit during mild driving and braking. Under heavy loads, like at the track, these pads are silent.

I'll probably switch back to the stock pads and rotors for daily driving soon and save the heavy duty stuff for the track weekends. I was hoping to eventually break through the zinc wash coating on the rotors and stop the squeaking, but after cryogenic treatment, I think they are just too hard. Even with the OEM pads they were squeaking, so I think I'll put the solid OEM rotors back along with the OEM pads and maybe upgrade to either Rotex Gold or some other low dust pads later.
