What's under the foam/packaging holding the tire tools?
I did a search on this and didn't find anything.
Has anyone removed the foam or like (for a lack of the right terminology) that holds the compressor, tire tools, and first aid kit in the trunk? If so, would there be room to store a spare donut? |

I pulled it out to have a look. There is a bit of room but not enough for a spare tire. :(

I removed the foam padding and inserted a JBL custom built audio system. There's plenty of room for alterations. However, I replaced some of the foam as a damper/insulation for the system. The foam does serve as an additional crumple zone unit but if you "allow" for the re-insertion of foam on the corners it may still serve as an assistance regarding the crumple zone.

I removed the foam to cut out a bigger hole for my cd changer.

Any of you who have removed all/some of the foam notice any more noise from outside the car, either from exhaust etc?

Re: What's under the foam/packaging holding the tire tools?
I have removed all the foam filler and lined it with dynomat. I bought a piece of 4x4 half inch plywood and made a custom enclosed box. I put in two 10 inch punch stage 1's on each side (fit perfectly) and mounted an amp in the middle, then carpeted it. Its sweet. I was also able to stuff the small tire air compressor up behind the rear bumper on the drivers side...there's just enough room. There are a few pics in my gallery of the process. I also raised up the OEM floor piece that was there by cutting a 2x4 in 2 inch pieces and mounted them vertically in the corners with velcro on top of them. The old floor now rests, or hovers, 2 inches above the subwoofers to make the whole set-up invisible. Nobody knows they are even there and they sound nice.
I'm not worried that the foam is not there anymore...when my times up, its up. At least I was having fun in my Crossfire. You only are on this planet once! Just my 2 cents. |

The foam is part of the crash structure.
If you remove it put something in its place. |

I've given a spare a lot of thought and the biggest challenge is what the heck to do with the full size tire you would take off!

Both rear tires will fit in the trunk.
There's always the passenger seat (make them walk)!!! |
