Default winter tires

I know this has probably been asked already, but I'm new so here we go. 1) on an 05' what is the best set of shoes for winter? 2) is it possible to down size the rims and still clear the brake rotors to go with a more aggressive tire?

Yes, It's been done. 18 inch rims all the way around I believe. do a search.

As to how mine handled with Pilot Sport All Season radials on stock rims... it did just fine. If you have an automatic, put it in winter mode. If not start out in second gear.

Take your time and go easy on the power and this car will do well in snow.

Cheers!

Michelin "Pilot" Alpins are the best snow tires I've ever had, although I didn't have them a Crossfire they handled like I had regular tires on the car, amazing!

I've had Bridgestone Blizzaks (I think I spelled it wrong) on another RWD car before, and I would highly recommend them.

Availability may be a problem in our neck of the woods!, Start looking today and you may have what you want by the end of september!. Mounting could also be an issue, Kal Tire is in Whiteourt, in Edmonton they charged $275 just to mount and balance!. Tire rack seems the way to go, (for availability) but adding shipping, Gst and federal duty you will not save much. What ever type of tires you install, dont take your Crossfire to KAYBOB SOUTH, its a pretty rough road right now, I was @ the Nova Motel last week, think I saw a Crossfire by the lights @ McDonalds, could have that been you?

Could have been me if it was a metallic blue. Doing sales anywhere near they kaybob plant or the big stone may require something more than the Crossfire. I'm not a big tire expert and I imagine I can look it up but does anybody know if they make a bridgestone blizzak tire for the Crossfire?

Hi, I'm also in Edmonton and have a Crossfire (mine is alabaster). I'm looking for a good winter tire set as well.

They do make a Bridgestone Blizzak for the Crossfire, I think you can see it at tirerack.com. I'm not sure what kind of prices the local stores are offering; but the prices on tirerack aren't too bad (although you'll have to add in shipping, then the UPS customs clearance fee, then the GST/duty).

Availability could be a problem, I spent a lot of time at Tirecraft and Fountain Tire plus a couple of other places, before getting my Pilot AS from the dealer. I did not research Blizzak's as I don't plan on winter driving, but due to our weather I wanted performance AS. I suggest that you start looking today for any brand of tire, and when you get the results decide if Tirerack is the way to go. On another note my 4 wheel realignment wasn't done on Friday BUT should be done today. This saga started on august 8, and my Crossfire driving has been restricted as I dont want to scrub off 2g's worth of tires. When I get my car back from the dealer I will post the place that did the 4 wheel laser alignment, hopefully to save my fellow Edmontonian's some of the grief that I am going thru.

I checked the blizzaks and they run about $390 for the back and $350 for the back. That's installed and balanced. I will probable give them a go.

I had them on my 95' Trans Am. Never had a problem in the Colorado winter and they moved me around pretty darn well. I definitely recommend Blizzaks!!
