Loose Inner Tie Rods
I just put on a new set of Goodyear F1 GS-D3s and when NTB checked the alignment, they said my inner tie rods were loose and needed to be replaced. I only have 31,600 miles so this seems ood to me.
I plan to call my dealer and check it out - shouldn't this be covered under warranty? Is this typical wear for this mileage? Thanks! Frank McCamant |
Re: Loose Inner Tie Rods
I was noticing a little noise on my way into work this morning myself. It seemed steering dependent. I was planning on taking a look this weekend.
Depending on your warranty, I would think it should be covered! |

Re: Loose Inner Tie Rods
my car went into shop yesterday and asked them to do alignment.... they called me today and told me that I also have loose tie rods and my card has 20400miles on it... they ordered the parts and going to replace it under warranty....

Re: Loose Inner Tie Rods
My tie rod ends had to be replaced at 24K miles. Is this normal? Hate to have to pat for them at 45-50K miles
Any TSBs or recalls on this? |
Re: Loose Inner Tie Rods
Got my Xfire back from the dealer today after two work items: 1) four new tire pressure sensors at a warranty repair bill of $507! It was no cost to me since I am at 32K miles and 1 month away from the end of my basic warranty. But apparently all four sensors went out at once; 2) the loose inner tie rod ends, which were non-existent. Everything on the suspension and front-end checked out fine & the service guy said he would have been motivated to do the tie rod replacement at warranty pricing, but all was good.
So lesson is: don't trust tire places like NTB to service your car. My alignment I bought from them is good for 6 months and I plan to have it checked at least twice by them before it runs out. BTW, the Eagle F1s are real nice....! |
Re: Loose Inner Tie Rods
it most likely could be the steering shaft bolt that causes the looseness. just re-torque the bolt.

Re: Loose Inner Tie Rods
is it normal to have a big on center dead spot? When the car isn't running, I get about 20 degrees of steering wheel movement before it catches and starts tunring the wheels. This seems sloppy to me. I know its a reciprocating ball type system, but damn

Re: Loose Inner Tie Rods
mine is always sloppy before start up, once the car is running it's as tight as my Silverados rack and pinion, it's just not a fast.which is probably a good thing for higher speeds. no need to over control the car at 120mph
