"Meatier" looking tires on stock rims
 

I really like our stock rims, but would like the tires to appear 'meatier' if that makes any sense. Has anyone tried 285/30/19 tires on the rear wheels? I am looking at Michelin Pilot Sport all season tires that size, and the total height and revolutions per mile are very close to the stock size tires.

But basically, I'm just wondering if anyone has put wider tires on our stock rims, if they could post a pic or two with what they've put on so we could see what it looks like, that'd be awesome. I'm trying to find something that looks good so I can go visit the tire shop with a starting point at least.

I am more interested in looks than in minor gains or losses in performance. Besides, I gotta get ready for that V8 swap that Lantana is doing lol Will need more meat on my rims then!

I put a larger diameter tire on all wheels on my car, I went up one profile - same width.
The wheels fill the arches better - no rubbing from the rear, just a bit on the front every now & again when I'm on full lock, and then it only rubs the splash shield. Do a search under my name and you'll find the post which has a pic on it.
Ride is a tiny bit softer due to the taller sidewall.
Speedo is out about 2.5mph @ 60mph.
Spoiler comes up at 65mph now, consequently goes down at a different speed to normal.

Not stock rims, but definitely "Meatier"... (Rims are 1/2" wider than stock)

THose are some darned fine wheels, MMZ. And thank you, spensley, I saw your pic, and I think perhaps a bit taller might be in order, as well.... But what I'm looking for is for the rear tires to come out from the rim just a bit more than they do. Meatier. Anyone tried wider tires on the stock rims? Surely someone has... I mean... we got guys swapping in V8's, surely we must have someone with a little bit fatter tire, too. lol

Not stock wheels, but 245/35/18's on the front and 285/35/19's on the rear.

The fronts are 8.5X18" and the rears are 9.5X19". I still have my original wheels & tires with less than 2K miles on them just in case I want to switch back & fourth ;) .

No, they wouldn't fit the new wheels without modification so I just left them in my OEM's and pulled the bulb out of the dash.

I put 285/30/19 Nitto Invos on the rear. Kept the stock SRT rims. Tires are definitely meatier. The tire height is nearly identical to the stock 255/35/19 and is off .06 MPH at 60.

One benefit on these tires (can't speak for other brands in this size) is that there is a bit of rim protection because the tire has a bit of a lip that is out further than the wheel lip. The Michelins did not offer this and actually had the rim out further than the tire. I think you can see this in the picture of the Invo.

Have you had any problems when you pulled the bulb out of the dash? No engine warning or other unusual lights?

I am thinking of doing the same thing, but don't want some other "warning" light on.

No problems, the back of the bulb has a metric hex head, I don't recall what size for sure, I think it was 4,5 or 6mm and a PITA to get to. I posted some directions with what size wrench and how to get to it a while back.

Much better looking and the rim no longer hangs out to catch the curb.

And the tire selection should be better in 285/30/19.

Now my question is; can you fit 245 section width tires on the stock rims in front without problems from the upper control arm ball joint bolt ?

Yes. Have had 245/35's on oem wheels without issue.
