cutting the springs
 

somewhere here i read that the xfires springs have the same spring rate as the ????? springs? and that they can be cut one turn., how much lower is that? will the ride be rough., does the car need alighment after? i have 22mm spacers at the rear, will i have any rubbing problems? need advice., thanks

hey.

they have the same spring rate as the eibach springs. just one more coil. you can safely cut one coil away.

not sure about the amount of lower. i did mine and about 30 mm lower front and rear. looks really good.

you need to half the buffer on the shockers.

as expected the ride is lower and firmer. better handling.

imo. save your coin and cut the springs instead of buying the eibachs. that is my opinion.

a couple of notes:

ensure your springs are seated properly.
ensure you cold gal the end of the spring you cut to ensure that no rust occurs
cut the buffers of your shockers
cut from the top of the spring
use a hand held grinder to cut he springs
have fun with the fronts.
read the maintenaince manual for the fronts.
spare one or two days for the work. the fronts can be hard. but you MUST lower the a-arm to do it.

ive always heard that grinding down springs is the worst thing you could do. and that it will blow the strut out extremely fast is that true?

the strut )shocker i assume) is a seperate issue. this should be replaced regardless of whether you cut the springs or go with the eibachs.

i have not repalaced the shockers. will save the coin for the time being and replace them just before they die.

i lowered my cougar, and thrshockers are still in good nick a year later.

probably a stack of differing opinions. i did a bit of research on this and can only give my opinion. ride is good. ride is solid. save a crap load of cash which can be put into other mods.

sorry i have been moving for the past 3 days and could not anwer., but anyway thanks for the info., am afraid to start the front and not be able to do it right., will ask a shop to do it just to see hoe much they'll ask for
