I saw Crossfires on the dealers showroom floor in Washington State that had chrome wheels on them. Not bad!!!!!!!!!!!!
The wheels were offered as options.
I also saw (on ebay) a company in Chicago that you could get chrome exchange wheels (but didn't copy the link).
Anyone seen the Chi-Town link on ebay I'm talking about???

 

Don't do it chrome doesn't last .peels and pits.Then it looks like sh*t.

 

I agree with Dan... It's very difficult to chrome plate, aluminum... But it looks like you were talking about chrome replacement wheels... In that case I think you should do whatever you think looks good to you... I usually do a photoshop mock-up when I'm considering an alteration to the car so I can visualize it...

The Malibu canyon run with that term is confusing to some .Look up Malibu Canyon Hook-up.That will show you ,what it was about.

 

I don't know any companies in specific, but there are companies out there that strictly chrome stock wheels.

You basically buy the chrome wheels off them.... when you get them, you send back your stock rims, which they chrome and send to someone else.. Get it..

It lets you get chrome rims cheaper than buying a whole another set, and cheaper than getting yours custom chromed.. since they do it as a business.. its economies of scale. But supposedly it's a good deal, I've never done it.. but I've looked into it in the past.

 

That's what the link on EBay is. They send you the chrome wheels first. Then you send yours back to them and get your deposit back. That way you don't have to sit around with no wheels for a few weeks waiting for yours to be chromed. I think the first time I saw this ad the price was $660 (now it's $520), so i'm guessing they didn't get too many takers.

That doesn't seem too bad a price if you want chrome rims without spending a boatload of money.

 

I wish they came in a brush finish,clear coat.That's my favorite look.

 

You don't want brush finished aluminum with clear coat. You get a break in the clear coat and the moisture gets underneath and then the 'cancer' affect takes over. I know, I've seen it on the Corvettes.

The only cure is completely removing the clear coat and polish the aluminum.

 

All wheels take some kind care but I like brush finish and my jag wheels are perfect and are 10 years old .You can strip and reclear coat though,less than stripping chrome and refinishing.I do like just polished also except you must get them clean.

 

ANY wheel that is not taken care of will self destruct...........................
Chrome peels once the surface has been broken whether its steel or alloy........................
Painted wheels are the same but are more forgiving..........................
AND THE WORSE ones are the brushed or polished alloys once the clearcoat has been violated!!!
The solution is to take care of them and do your best to NOT snag a curb>>>>>>>>>>>
which will cut into the clearcoat and let moisture get between the coating and the wheel!!!!

OH,YES.....Crager Super Sports are a different story.............they do peel after a while no matter what you do....................but that was 50s and 60s technology!!!!!

 

Yes and chrome and aluminum do separate from heat and stress. Good luck if you get them get a lifetime warrenty.
