Mercedes has some very nice wheels in the same 5x112 as the XF but has a bewildering number of offsets and caliper clearance issues (a XF wheel on an SLK needs at least a 20 mm spacer to clear the caliper in the front).
Merc also uses two lug bolts sizes, 12x1.5 and 14x1.5mm in the same pattern however both use a 17 mm socket and the cones look the same and have the same diameter (strange) only the thread is different.
Also like the XF, the wheels are hub centric so the lug bolts have nothing to do with centering, just hold the wheel on.
My question (at last) has anyone used a 14mm lug wheel on a Crossfire ? Perhaps with a hub-centric spacer ? Looks like it should work for cruising and daily driving but wouldn't try for track day. Am thinking along those lines since 14mm wheels are much more common around here (read: cheaper) than 12s.

Actually was looking at
(small print says 20 lug nuts). 6061 T6 is Good Stuff (tm). This would change a 58mm offset to 38mm which is close to the stock 36mm.
ps anyone know what ET (European for offset) stands for ?
pps some of the mysteries of the universe is why wheel size is in inches and offsets in mm. Another is why on the sidewall of a Contimental tire on a VW in Frankfurt it says "made in Germany" and not "Deutchland")

Google ET off set and you will see the word starts with ein I think.

180: thank you very much. Just researched the issue further and seem sthe 14mm is a cone seat and the 12mm is a radius (ball) seat. So cannot use a 12mm lug bolt on a 14mm wheel. Wonder if this was deliberate.
So important to know if wheels were designed for a 14mm bolt or a 12mm. More than just the size.
