Hi - new to this forum. Just bought my first Crossfire.

I did a quick search and couldn't find this, so please don't shot me if I missed it, but....

Can you remove the lower ball joint without removing the spindle etc.?
If I turn the wheel I can get at the top bolt and obviously the back bolt is easy to get at. However, not sure how it would come off as there is no room for it to move outwards,

Any assistance is appreciated.

 

Seems to me if the "back" bolt is loose you should be able to pull the spindle/wheel out away from the car, far enough to clear the top of the ball joint from the A frame. The first thing to do is pop the ball joint loose so the A-frame is loose off the ball joint and then loosen the back bolt. Good luck. I do not recall exactly how I did it myself.
PS It is a good idea to take pressure off the coil spring.

However, it will be tough popping the ball joint off without much room.
By taking the pressure off the coil spring, do you mean just putting a jack under it?

 

Putting a jack under the A-frame isn't really taken pressure off; It just controls the downward tension. Best to use a coil spring retractor/compressor. The type that goes up into the center of the spring and compresses the spring.
Just look at what you are doing and you can figure it out. If you intend to use one of those long tuning fork style ball joint remover it probably wont work. You need the small clamp type that uses a screw to pop the joint. You may be able to borrow those tools from a car parts store if you don't have them. Good Luck.

 

Thanks - I didn't do anything to take pressure off spring but wasn't too hard. Just a lot of turning wheel one way to loosen on part and the other for the back...couple of good wacks and off it comes.
Will have both wheel off the ground for the other side to make it quicker.
