OT, but check this scam out!!
OT, but check this scam out!!
Ok,
So im in the market to buy another vehical because A.) Im going into sales and will be on the road a ton! B.) I refuse to put miles on the SRT6 and selling it is not an option! C.) I have a 98' Tahoe that gets 15mpg and cant sell that either because i need to trailer my race cars.......So im on craigslist because you can find some decent deals on cars there. So i come across an add for a 04' R32 VW Golf for $4200. It has pics of the car and it looks flawless! Awesome looking little car! I had no idea what they were going for so I checked and you cant touch one in that condition for under 16k! So i write the seller an email and ask why they are selling, mileage etc.......Here is the 1st response back.
I'm really sorry for this late reply but I've been very busy lately and
away from a computer. The car is in excellent running and body
condition, no flaws on it or any other mechanical problems. It has a
clear title and it will be signed and notarized on your name as soon as
the payment will be completed. This was my husband's car who passed away
4 months ago and it only brings me bad memories. I only hope to find a
good home for it and to be taken care of like my husband did. I believe
$4,200(not negotiable) with all shipping fee anywhere in the continental
US included is more than a fair price.
I will tell you a few words about it. 2004 Volkswagen Golf R32 Hatchback
2D in immaculate condition with only 37,256 miles, VIN number:
WVWKG61J74D130130, rust free, no scratch and hasn't been involved in any
accident. Engine is a 3.2L V6 MPI with a manual trans. The interior
looks great (never smoked in). This car needs nothing.
I want this transaction to go smoothly enough as I am caught in the
middle of some very important events and have little time at my
disposal. I already have tons of emails so I hope you understand that I
need to sort them out. I will take in consideration only those buyers
who are really interested in buying the car, to be sure that I don't
waste my time with endless discussions. This way, I shall be assured of
the serious intentions.

So if you are interested please email me back and we'll go from there.

Ok fine! Sounds good! I write back stating that "I would love to come look at the car, where are you located?" Her reply.......
As I told you in my first e-mail, I lost my husband in an accident 4
months ago and I was badly injured. I have problems with my hearing and
most of the time have headaches. I'm in Santa Monica now for treatment.
Before leaving I had prearranged the deal with Reliable Movers
http://www.reliable-movers.us so my presence isn't necessary. The car
and all the papers (title,etc..) are in their possession ready for
delivery. The shipping company will hold the payment until the car is
delivered and inspected. You will have 3 days to test and inspect it. If
it's not as described or if the title is not clear or whatever problem
you may find and we can't work it out, the car will be returned and your
payment will be refunded. If you accept it, the papers will be signed
and notorized, and they will release the funds to me.
Quite simple and fast. So if you want to purchase the car please go to
http://www.reliable-movers.us/search.php and follow the instructions.
Now what is weird is that she gives the VIN(which is the car), mileage and the site "reliable movers" looks legit!! It has to be a scam right?? WTF?

Re: OT, but check this scam out!!
If it sounds like too good a deal it probably is a scam...considering you wanted to look at the car and wow lo and behold you cant... Its up to you but without a visual inspection I wouldnt and all that blah blah blah about 3 days with the car could be a way to just get you to send the money and by that time your money is gone before the car arrives. If it arrives at all. It could be a good deal but are you willing to chance it.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck, what are the chances that it is in fact an elephant?
Bottom line: If you have time on your hand mess with the scammer. Keep pushing the issue that you have to see the car. If they all of a sudden explain that the car is in London, Buenos Aires, or anywhere else in the world, tell them: GREAT my buddy is just there visiting and would check out the car for me. If you keep pushing the issue of having to see the car they will ultimately stop writing back, because there is no way in hell this is legit.

Re: OT, but check this scam out!!
I own a martial art studio and about 6 months ago I got an email saying that the guy's son wanted to study with me and he would pay X amount of dollars for him to study for a year. Bear in mine that x amount was a lot more that I usually charge. I email back and say sure. A week later I got a bank check for a bank in Tenn. for twice what he said he was sending. The same day he emails and said he made a mistake and please wir the excess amount to his bank. The check he sent looked legit but something made the hair on the back of my neck stand up so I go to my bank to check out the check and lo and behold the check is a counterfeit. The bank it stated was real but they had never issued it. There are lots of scams but usually things that are too good to be true turn out to be just that
Re: OT, but check this scam out!!

It is a scam. I just went through the same thing for a 1991 300ZX Turbo. Very similar responses and it was advertized as being in Dallas/Fortworth area Auto Trader. I said I was coming through that way and asked to see it Sunday. The response was - it is in L.A. and either I can come see it there or it will be shipped and exactly what you have listed at time of delivery. I started asking more pressing questions and he just disappeared. Bunch of idiots. The car was said to have 37,000 original miles in excellent condition for $3995.

This appears to be a scam. I also responded to a craigslist item for a 1968 Triumph TR250 for $3800.00 and received the following response:

I've called "reliable-movers " customer service phone number and e-mailed them as well over the last 2 days with no response.
Looks like a scam that the FBI should get involved in.
