Is the XF an Ugly car?
Is the XF an Ugly car?
It is now two weeks since I took delivery of my xf roadster. Even though I have yet to see another roadster around the New Forest (UK) I have been somewhat amazed by the general response to the car. Apart from the continuous gawping and rubber-necking that this car seems to generate I have had several occasions of people shouting “whoa nice car” (obviously only heard while the top was down – OK it was mostly kids).
However, I was somewhat confused the first day I took the xf to work. I had kept quiet about the xf and parked it in a prominent position early, before most people had arrived at work. My hope was to quietly (and smugly) listen to the comments around the office (no one knew that the xf was mine). Talk about it they did – I have never experienced so much discussion about a car before. To my surprise around half the people thought that the xf was the ugliest car they had ever seen, they absolutely hated it with a passion. The other half thought it was the most beautiful car they had ever seen. On the whole I was quite pleased – lol – talk about work disruption - the discussion went on and on.
The question is - Is the XF like marmite? – do people either love it or hate it.

Re: Is the XF an Ugly car?
the coupe's rear end was executed MUCH better than the roadsters (sorry Liz)... its got a really complex bunch of lines and curves that the roadster just cant duplicate. but that usually happens when you turn a coupe into a convertible; the roofline and rear suffer.
most of the people who hate it own a 350z/G35 or an RX8.

IMO the rear with its high 'shoulders' is the main trait of any crossfire. If some enviers don't like it, what would they like to have? A rear akin to any other car? Boring!!
The front and the side look like a regular wiener extension (some call such sport cars that way in german.. ). So no big sensation, but the REAR ... that's crossfire. Makes it really unique.
Personally, I prefer the coupe. Same reason as mentioned in previous posts.

I think that the coupe is gorgeous. I'm trying to learn to like the roadster as I always prefer the top down driving experience.
Both of my daughters think the car is ugly and have issued stern warnings about possible repercussions should I purchase one. My wife thinks it's beautiful and would really like me to buy it.
I've pretty much narrowed my choices down to Crossfire, GTO, or Solstice.

Like almost always, listen to the wife's word. And it's ok if your daughters don't like it. Because when they once drive it and make their experience you won't see your car again much often.
Re: Is the XF an Ugly car?
Driving the Crossfire certainly increases one's appreciation for the car. Very solid feel, better torque than I anticipated. I explained that to my daughters, but I don't think they'll fully understand until they drive the car. Of course, it's always good policy to may the wife happy!
I'm probably not going to actually make the purchase until fall 06', anyway.

The Xfire is a work of art. I think the original version was ugly, but luckily they made the change and I purchased one. Here in Germany people seem not to be able to keep their eye's off of it. It even got to the point I had to tint my windows. I really enjoy the fact that Karmaan, in Osnabruck the place where the Xfire is built, only builds 11,000 a year. I plan to take a trip tomorrow there and hopefully be able to watch how they assemble the Xfire.
