Default Radioshack Piezo Buzzer

Hey!

I found the thread about the Piezo Buzzer and figured I would give it a shot. So I got the P/N273-060 and wired it like in the thread. With the hood open I hear a "beep" that sounds pretty nice but with the hood closed it is hard to hear if I am not right beside the hood on the driver's side. Are there louder buzzers? Am I doing something wrong? I walk behind my car and it is very hard to detect...and no, it is not my hearing

I did not put the buzzer inside of the box, but outside the case, so that is not the reason either. At this point I would like to ask how you guys mounted it on the outside? Just tape it?

Thanks for any help --
Nick

I am lost for numbers right now. I installed the recommended buzzer and went back and bought a louder one which has worked perfect. I need to look more in older posts for the number.

I soldered the wires as well, just popped the cover and drilled two holes.

I got the same as you, the 060 one but it still is not very loud...where did you guys place it? Inside the box or outside the box? Maybe I just need to play around with placement..

If you have high frequency hearing loss, you might have trouble hearing the 3600 Hz tone of the 060 buzzer. It's not really loud, but you should be able to hear it, especially if you mounted outside the 'box'. Mine (the original 1st one ever) is just taped outside of the box. There are others that are probably louder and/or give a lower freq. tone.

Here's the original post for reference:

Sounds like a project for my weekend.
I should also point out that I may need to check my fuses to begin with -- the lights flash.. but I can't get the alarm to go off no matter what. Tried locking the car and opening a door from the inside -- nothing.

I used the buzzer as per CorFire's post. I did the wire soldering like James (thru the relay box), and mounted the buzzer against the inside panel of the fender. You can run the wire out of the fuse box easily, there's a notch in the lid/base.
Here's a shot of the setup...

Say, What is that rocker swithched circuit in the front of the fuse box for? I'm thinking of something like that for engine compartment lighting.

Funny....that's exactly what that is. I did blue LEDs under the hood to shine on the cover, makes it glow almost the same color as the car.

Here's a shot in the garage..

Maybe you have the polarity reversed?

Nicely done; looks great. I'm definitely doing this now. Buzzer and lighting project. Will it ever end?

Guys I finally put mine outside the fuse box and played around with it a bit and it now works as it should. It is not too loud but definitely can hear it. Great tips and thanks to all of you!
