Default Tire Buying

Anyone know where I can buy 2 AS or winter tires. I am looking for rear prefer Goodyear F1 AS (can't find any) or Dunlop SP Winter Sport3D. On line dealers and others REFUSE to sell just rear tires. I been to tirerack.com and Town Fair and few local places all refuse to sell less than 4 tires cliaming unmatched tread patterns will kill meor put me in danger during hard braking. OEM Conti M&S are ok BUT wearout VERY fast and are overpriced...

My front tires (OEM Conti M&S have very little wear on them).

they have 25 available if you use winter tires you should have them on all 4 wheels.

I'm sorry..."unmatching tread patterns" will kill you? Oh, Brother! I bet that these same locals would do everything they could NOT to honor a warranty if you felt that there was a problem that might kill you with one of the tires that they sold you. I mean, why must you buy all 4? It's not like they're even the same size.

My Goodyear store sold me new rear F1's and I kept the Conti's on the front. Not only unmatching tread patterns but unmatching manufacturers! THE HORROR! I lived long enough that 6 months later I bought new F1's for the front.

Keep looking - somebody will sell you 2 new tires.

Actuallly the person that told me that was Bruce customer service supervisor at tirerack.com. "The winter treads will overcome the AS treads while braking and cause the car to be unstable. There's been lawsuits over deaths caused by this. And we care to much for our customers to put them at risks" I asked him if he was going to sell me the 2 rear tires and he refused...all four or none.

I imagine an aggressive tread on a front wheel drive might cause this but my garden was well fertilized on that one. I had a similiar experience at Town Faire Tire (a New England tire chain). tirerack.com did not make a similiar claim on the F1's as no one seems to have 255/35's in stock so the arguement would be mote. One of the 2 made a similiar cliam about Blizzaks.

Tell them something like, "...hey, somebody stole my rear tires. The ones in front are OK and they are F1s so I want to match front and rear. I'll even sign a waiver..."

Like Fenwick above I've got the original Conti's on the front & the Goodyear's on the back, have had the car to 155 & it drove just hunky-dory. Fear not!

I think it would be cheaper if you bought all 4 Kumho SPT from tire rack, grand total is $492 not including $40 for shipping.
