I went through the same process. Broken lanyard, so I replaced the gas cap, probably off of Amazon. Got several codes and cleared them. Got frustrated and went back to the original cap and so far no codes. Apparently, the replacement cap is not quite a "good" replacement cap.

Need to be more diligent in reading these posts and not picking up "knockoff" parts. Also, it pays to have a good scanner.
