Hi guys!
So a while back as preventative maintenance I re-sealed the spoiler attachment points and the spoiler plate it mounts to where the gasket often fails and water start leaking in the trunk.
I'm in the process of installing a new backup camera and have the trunk lining off. Maybe that's the reason why water is getting into the trunk now but I have other suspicion.
How does the weather stripping that seals the around the entire trunk attach to the metal? Previous owner pulled that stripping up and ran the camera wire into the trunk that way.
The weather stripping gasket is nice and tight against the car all over except in that area where he ran the wire underneath it. I can easily pull it up. You can even see the bulge where I can pull it up easily.
How is that weather stripping attached? Is someone supposed to be able to pull it off the car?
Is it maybe attached with silicone to the car? It is rock solid all around except for the area where I drew the arrow, right next to the latch.
Which brings me to another question - can the latch leak?
The weather stripping feels tight against the frame everywhere but where it's warped and I can easily pull on it and it will detach from the car in that area.
How is it normally attached and held in place?
