Reading through the article and touching on the prowler it seems that the high cost and trying to compete with European luxury sports brands killed both cars. Years later my inexpensive Hyundai Elantra GT had pretty much the same luxury features as a crossfire and cost much much less for 2014 compared to 2004 crossfire. I have heated bucket seats, a decent stereo comparable with Bluetooth, heated mirrors, decent power, and most importantly coffee cup holders that don't get in the way. Granted I don't have leather seats and greater acceleration but for driving it gets around.
Just think if they hard marketed that body on an American engine and chassis for 20K in 2003 the crossfire* might be with us today.
* Well their marketing failure is our gain today to have a really nice luxury sports car
