ECU's are de-tuned for a lot of reasons, mostly like has been said different driving styles, different environmental issues, different octane's of fuel, etc. etc. Perfect example, the manual says to use "Premium Fuel only". In some places, "Premium" is 91 Octane, in some places it's 93, in other places who knows... So do you think they tune for 93 (like I can get here), or 91? Or something even worse??? I can put 93 in my car, but I got money says the car ain't REALLY taking advantage of it, but with I chip upgrade I CAN (and WILL soon) get those hidden pony's!
