It sounds like the traction control is just doing its thing since you can't completely turn it off using the manual switch. Think of it as "big brother" looking over your shoulder.
Or it's your rev limiter kicking in, but you did say you weren't shifting manually, so your tranny should be shifting itself well before the rev limiter kicks in.
