They took your money to the office and came back with change and a glass or plate. They didn't expect a tip. Gas was 28.9 cents per gallon.

The idea of providing a place for the owner to put the gas cap while pumping hadn't occurred to anyone. Automobile owners didn't pump gas. Neither had the idea of putting wheels and extendable handles on luggage.
