Default Re: lookie lookie!! more hot rod progress!

I get asked what the car sounds like, if it's loud, if you can hear the turbos, and other stuff. So, this afternoon, I made a quickie little video of the car from the back. It doesn't go anywhere and doesn't roast the tires in this video. Maybe I'll do that stuff later.
I simply ran it up through some rpm slowly and gave it some moderate revs a few times to capture the sound of the car.
It's cold and wet today so there's lots of condensation coming from the pipes. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and bad section of fuel line today. The EFI needs to be tuned again now that the fuel pressure isn't dropping off. It's currently burning rich and popping a bit when the revs settle back down.

The car has a wee little cam, Edelbrock heads, distributorless EFI, 8.7:1 compression, two turbochargers, and 3" straight exhaust exiting in front of the tires. There are no mufflers. All the sound absorption is done by the turbos.

Whaddya think? YouTube linky

When I had the 2-1/2" exhaust with mufflers you didn't hear anything. It was very quiet. Quieter than new Mustangs and Camaros. The car sounded quite a bit like a new Ram.
That's what made it so fun. Everyone thought it was all show and no go.
Now that I deleted the mufflers and went with 3" pipe it sounds like a mild little street car. The big difference is that you can easily hear the turbos spooling up and down. If I'm not exciting the turbos, everybody still thinks it's a pushover.

As it is, there's a little of the old muscle car sound without the drone that comes from so many of the mufflers. It's actually quite pleasant to drive. You don't get a headache in the first 10 minutes behind the wheel.
