Yes, the Allante was plagued by a multitude of problems for quite awhile during its 7 year production run from 1987 to 1993.
As with alot of other General Motors "Specialty" vehicles, they got it right by the last year of production. (Which was the only year the North Star V8 was available, and coincidently, the highest selling year).
Total production was 21430, vs 21751 for its "Sister car" the Reatta. (Which was only in production 4 years).
