Installing LEDs under the dash via dome light
I actually used Grille lights that I purchased from Autozone. They were about $20. They had the option of pulsating back and forth like the night rider one from the show or steady on.
1. Start by removing the top piece (the part the ragtop attaches to) by prying up on the side facing the rear of the car. Lined in RED on photo. It is a snap on piece, so start slowly and then move your way across the piece from one side to the other.
2. Remove the right side panel (same one as the air bag on/off selector is attached to).
3. Remove the plastic cover under the passenger side dash. Two screws I think.
4. Remove the center console vent face (by the foot area), That will reveal another small screw. Unscrew that and then the piece that the vent face was attached to will come off. It might take a little bit of maneuvering, but it will come off. Same thing for the driver side.
5. Attach the power wires to the LED to the dome light fixture, try a couple of different spots to see if power is going to the LED's. If nothing happens, try turning the vehicle to the on position. or open the door. After you find the correct places to power the LEDs, solder them in place or use electrical tape. Prefer the first.
6. Run the wires to the right side of the car via the open area to the right side of the windshield. I lifted up the rubber flap that runs down the right side of the windshield and tucked the wire under it.
7. As you tuck and tuck you will end up at the bottom of the rubber flap piece and then run the wire through the open side panel, which comes out under the passenger side dash.
8. At this point you have already removed the center console components (makes the job easier) push one of the LED's and wire through the entire center consol so it pops out on the drivers side (close to where the drivers foot vent is). Place the large center console piece back on as the LED light and wires hang out through the opening where the vent face will be screwed back on. Both sides.
9. I tried to see if the LEDs would fit through the vent face but they did not, so I placed the vent face back on and then attached them to the vent face via double sided 3M tape. Just a little bit of the wire is showing but not noticeable.
