You do NOT have to remove the wear sensor cable from the caliper to get the pads off. Just unclip it from it's holders so you have some slack. The only other thing that will keep you from almost getting the caliper off is the brake line itself.

Once it's tipped out you can use a small box, or small bucket to set the caliper on while you work.

Getting the front brakes apart is as easy as two bolts and a clip.
