Here's something to consider - especially for autocross people...
Directional tires grip better going forward than they do going back - better traction when accelerating etc.
I don't know if they still do it nowadays, but once upon a time they used to have the front tire rotation going the wrong way (put the LH tire on the RH side... vice versa).
This gave better traction when braking.
