Re: Is anyone interested in Autocross?
I was able to take my Crossfire on my first autocross event with the local MB club. I was happy since my Crossfire did better than I was expecting. Here is the details.
We had about 20 cars. There was an old 1964 MB with a great driver, E55 AMG, 1 SL600, Porsche Cayman and various other MB models. Some were experienced and some were not. I was more than a little nervous since I was staged between the Porsche and AMG cars. Thankfully it is a low key event and after a couple runs I was really impressed with my Crossfire. The torque, handling and good brakes was perfect for this tight and technical course. But, after about the 5th run I really started to notice how poorly my Contis all-season tires are on a skidpad. Of course most of the other cars were on sticky tires. I guess I need to get another set of rims quickly!
As it turned out a NASA instructor with a slightly modified S2000 won the event in 29.00 seconds. Porsche(also an instructor) Cayman was second at 30:13. My first run was 35:20. After 5 runs I turned off the ESP and my times improved each lap to 32.20. Not too shabby for a rookie. That was a better time than the E55 and SL600!
This local club is small but it seems a good group of guys and they understand our cars have a heart of a MB. Their knowledge and experience with MB products is impressive.
I will be organizing a fun run so look for details in another thread.
